Heartfelt condolences to Diana and to the family. I long admired Bob as an artist and was thrilled when he suggested trading a piece.
It was a pleasure, always, to see him. He was a bright light in the arts community and I was happy for his recent solo shows at Laffer Gallery and at Albany Center Gallery where I first saw his work many years earlier. He made significant, innovative contributions to printmaking and to the freedom of art making. He will be missed by so many friends and art lovers.

He was at one time not only my best friend but also my mentor. He so graciously when I asked to teach me his Glass Transfer painting. I was even part of a grant he got to study the art. I Love his art. He and also Tomm O'Connor were so generous with allowing anyone who had an interest in printmaking come and print with out paying . Just Keep the shop clean. There would be wonderful print makers printing at midnight. I had the luck to be part of a great group of people, we printed etching or litho together when ever there was no classes. and for free. Bob just loved so much to have people around... He collected every year from his students a print. When I was the collection Manager at Albany univerisity he donated over a thousand of those prints. They I hope can still be seen in the corridors. Some just dedicated to Bob. I tries so hard then to get money for framining and desplaying his donation. I think I was successful in Making suny admin Understant his importance. That mostly with Katherin Lowerly, and President Hall who left us too soon...I hope he riding on roller coaster with no stops!!!!!! Wren Panzella

The first time I saw Bob, he was pushing a grocery cart at SUNY Albany in the printmaking hall. I had the great pleasure of working with him as a graduate student, even for a short time. He was an amazing artist and teacher. My heart goes out to his family and to all his students who took away with them some of his brilliance and insight as a "maker" of things.

I am sorry for your loss, I never got to meet Mr. Cartmell however I read his rollercoaster information with great interest and appreciate it very much. I think of him when I ride certain coasters and believe he put some rides on the map, long before the internet existed. Many thanks for his great information!
