Dear Libba:
I was shocked, and deeply saddened to learn of Mac's passing. I didn't even know he was not well. It's sad how we tend to lose touch with old and dear friends. Mac (who will always be "Animal" to me, even though I know you never cared much for that highschool nickname) was one of my closest friends growing up, and as you know, we made many fond memories (including your wedding). This space is so limited, but you and your family are in my thoughts.
Fondly, Charlie

Dear Libba,
Although I was prepared for it, I am so sorry for the loss of Mac. He has been in my thoughts and prayers ever since his diagnosis almost two years ago, and you have been in them ever since I learned of his passing. Mac was my fraternity brother and professional colleague, but first and foremost he was my good friend. Take comfort in fond memories of the good times - and there is certainly no shortage of those. I cannot count the many humorous Mac Ladd stories in my repertoire. I'm glad that you and I had the opportunity to visit on the phone a while back and that Mac and I were able to do the same in July. He was courageous to the very end, and I admire him for the fight he fought. He is an inspiration to all of us. I shall miss Mac very much, but he's in a better place.
Sincerely, Randy
