Karl Kruer Obituary

KRUER Mr. Karl Kruer, Jr., age 85, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Thursday morning, February 24, 2011 at his home. Born in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of the late Karl and Ida Arpen Kruer, Sr. He was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, Class of 1944 and had been a lifelong resident of Jacksonville before moving to Fernandina Beach in 1989. As a young man, he served with the Volunteer Red Cross Corps at Jacksonville Beach as a Lifeguard and Instructor. After meeting his future wife, Mary Jo Ivie, at a Memorial Day dance, they were married in 1953. Mr. Kruer had worked as a Heavy Equipment and Marine Mechanic at the Gibbs Corporation of Jacksonville before joining Anheuser Busch in 1969. He remained with Anheuser Busch until retiring in 1988. A U.S. Army Air Corp. Veteran, he had served as a Reservist and active duty during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Kruer was an avid golfer, furniture maker and hunter. He also enjoyed oil painting and traveling extensively within the U.S. After moving to Fernandina Beach he and his wife became active members of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fernandina Beach. Mr. Kruer is preceded in death by a brother, John H. "Buddy" Kruer, and two sisters, Irene K. Bailey and Betty K. Geitz and a grandson, Geremia Vaughn.. He leaves behind, his wife of 57 years, Mary "Jo" Kruer, Fernandina Beach, their children, Sherry Vaughn (Charlie), Fernandina Beach, FL, Karl "Sandy" Kruer, Jacksonville, FL, Scott Kruer, Fernandina Beach, FL a brother, George Robert Kruer, (Florence), Milton, DE, five grandchildren, Christan Morales (Alex), West Warwick, RI, Edwin Kruer (Stephanie), Lavonia, GA, Ryan Kruer, Lavonia, GA, Alaetra Kruer, Fernandina Beach, FL, Krysa Kruer, Fernandina Beach, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 26, 2011 from the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Reverend Ida Iverson, officiating. Mr. Kruer will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday at the Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Fernandina Beach or to Community Hospice.
