Carlton Wilder Obituary

WILDER Carlton Bedlan Wilder died December 20, 2013. He was born in Chicago, September 23, 1924, to Almon Brooks and Eloise Bedlan Wilder, and grew up in Wheaton, Illinois. He attended Rollins College, where he met Marjorie Hansen, his wife of 69 years. They had four sons and one daughter, Chris (Yani), Tim (Janice), Jeff (Courtney), Doug (Dot), and Julie; nine grandchildren, Brenna, Stacey, Seth (Jennifer), Oliver, Ben (Stephanie), Emily, Burton (Bryan), Paul (Elaine), and Brooks (Brian); and five great grandchildren. Carlton served in the Navy aboard the destroyer R.P. Leary during WWII. He spent half his career as a commercial artist, and then became a full time fine artist. His marine paintings, landscapes, and portraits were award winning and his passion. He loved the subjects he painted - the water and woods and architecture of Florida. He and Marjorie were equally at home aboard their sailboat, Comesin, or living in the house they built at Littlelot. He loved most spending time with family and friends, talking, laughing, and flashing that Carlton Wilder smile. No public services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are by HELM-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 1811 IDLEWILD AVE., GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL 32043, 94-284-9696, www.helmgallagherfh.com Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com

I had lost touch with Carlton in the last few years. Recently, I read of Marjorie`s death. Both of them were wonderful people and they will be greatly missed by all who knew them. The wonderful art legacy lives on for us.

To all the Wilder Family. Greg and I (Becky) are so sad over the passing away of Carlton. My Mother died just 2 months before he did, so I know it still hurts. May you all find comfort, in the wonderful happy memories you had with him. We miss Carlton so much. He and Marjorie visited our home many times over the years on Jack Wright Island Road. At any party or get together Carlton was always everyone's favorite. He was so much fun to be around. Today I was browsing his website, looking at his paintings. He truly was a one in a million Master Artist. His paintings should be in museums. I don't want him to be gone. It reminds me, to cherish every day, and cherish friends and family...Becky and Greg Harrison

Carlton was a special friend. He & lovely wife Marjorie, shared their home for many memorable gatherings at Little-lot on the St Johns River. Carlton's memory will live on in his many beautiful paintings & with the lives he personally touched over the years. We love you Carlton & will miss you dearly.
