Fredrick Vallongo Obituary

VALLONGO

Fredrick F. Sr.

Fredrick F. Vallongo, Sr., died September 2, 2012, at Waterford Commons, where he had been a resident for three years. Born January 1, 1917, in Clarksburg, WV, he was one of 12 children of Sam Vallongo and Sallie Iaquinto. He moved to Toledo during World War II, and went to work for Textileather Corp., where he met Leota Marie Sprouse. They were married and had seven children, all of whom survive.

Fred, whose childhood nickname was "Scupa", then began work for the Nickel Plate Railroad in 1950, and retired, at age 65, as a yard clerk for Norfolk Southern Railroad. Fred and Marie divorced in 1969 and Fred married Gertrude (Betty) Hereth, the same year. Both wives preceded him in death.

Surviving are Fredrick F. Vallongo, Jr. (Sally), Sharon (Larry) Lindhurst, Sally (Cliff) Northrup, Betty Ellison, and Sam (Vicky) Vallongo, all of Toledo, and Joanne Hyter, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Gloria Van Horn of Kissimmee, FL, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Russell Allevato of Clarksburg; a sister, Mary Theresa Bellotti of Tarpon Springs, FL, and a niece, Victoria Cianfarani, of Clarksburg.

Burial was private. A memorial mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. September 21, 2012, at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral.

The family requests that memorial donations go to the charity of the donor's choice.
