William DeHan Obituary

DE HAN William P. William P. DeHan, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, on October 5, 1932, to J. Purcell and Edith DeHan. William attended DeVilbiss High School, Toledo, graduating from Staunton Military Academy, Staunton, Virginia, in 1950. He entered Virginia Military Institute located in Lexington, Virginia that fall but was caught up in the draft as a result of the Korean Conflict. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharged from the United States Marine Corp, Bill entered the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia. He worked for American Warming and Ventilating, Inc., Danberry and Gerdenich commercial realty companies. Currently Bill served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board and chairs the Property Committee. He was a long - time member of the Toledo Museum of Art and the Toledo Zoo. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert DeHan. He is survived by his son, John P. (Nicole) DeHan; granddaughter, Paisley Marie DeHan and very best friend, Annabelle "Belle" DeHan. Bill will be deeply missed by his family for all his gentle, loving, caring, nurturing and teasing ways. He certainly was one of a kind. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Sunday from 2-8p.m. where a Scripture Service will be held at 7p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the mortuary followed by the Funeral Mass in St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church at 1 p.m. Interment Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials are requested, in lieu of flowers, to the Salvation Army Ministries; Special Olympics c/o Lucas County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities; and Hospice of Northwest Ohio, who provided wonderful, compassionate care in his last days. How can I forget Bill's thumb on my glasses and the look on his face that said "I'm up to no good!". Always made me laugh and was such a good friend to my parents. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Belle and John.
