There are a lot of ways to describe the Man (and I do mean Man with a capital M)... The man I knew as my father.
He was a very strong man. Not only in physicality; Not only in stature; He was also mentally strong and strong in determination.
I never saw a task that he set his mind to that he could not accomplish.
Throughout the journey of these accomplishments he was a self made, self taught man. Yes he went to school, and yes hel attended college, but mostly he learned on his on.
I remember one day he decided he wanted to learn heating and air conditioning..
He found the books and learned it. He learned it to the degree that when I had an issue, he was able to teach me to fix it from 1200 miles away over the phone.
Mind you, there were no camera phones back then..
Another time we were talking, and I'm not sure if this was out of necessity, boredom or the need for a challenge, but he told me Son.. I'm going to learn the tax code...
So he did... And once again he shared what he learned with me.
I have many stories like these, but what I want you to get from them was the sharing he did.
That sharing was purely from his heart. Because another strength he had was his Love.
He Loved and he Loved hard.
His Love is what I will remember and cherish the most.
You see not only was he my father but also my closest friend. I can only remember my father having harsh words with me one time in my life. I think I must have been maybe 6 years old. Other than that one time, all I can remember is a beautiful relationship. A beautiful father-son relationship, and then a man to man relationship. I love the way he loved me and I had a Love for him that I cannot express in words.
I'm proud to say that I too share similar traits with him. Being as I'm the Jr. And he the Sr. You can say I inherited these things from him.
We share the same demeanor, the same temperament, the same thirst for knowledge and the same pride..
I can say that we are of the same character. I use the word character because the world is lost focusing on personality and the development of such. Yet I admired my father's character. I admire the Man that he was. I admire the Man within me that comes from him.
I will say now what I've always said.. Dad I'll see you when I get there.
