Vernon Vargo Obituary

Vernon Vargo, 84, of North Huntingdon, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011. He was the husband of the late Margaret Parry Vargo. Born March 15, 1926, in Rillton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Dixon Vargo. He operated the former Vargo Bakery in Manor for 10 years until 1968, when he went to work and retired from Rich's Corporation as a technical rep and master baker. A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of the NRA, Manor American Legion 472 and VFW Post 781. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed going to his cabin in Cooks Forest. He is survived by his children, Raymond Vernon (Susan) Vargo Jr., of West Newton, Vickie (Kenneth) Tickerhoof, of North Huntingdon, and Carole (Robert) Noel, of Weirton, W.Va.; grandchildren, Robert, Christine, Colleen, Connie, Dana, Jonathan and Emily; and great-grandchildren, Linda, Andrew, Steven, Grayfon, Justin, Beckham and Alexis. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Elizabeth Noel and Robert Vargo. Friends will gather from 10 a.m. until the time of services at noon Monday in the First United Methodist Church of Irwin, 310 Oak St., Irwin, PA 15642. Burial will be in Irwin Union Cemetery. Arrangements by STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION & MORTUARY SERVICES INC., 412-678-6177. Remembrances may be made to the World War II Memorial Fund, Washington D.C., or a favorite charity.
