Stephen Burrik Obituary

Stephen Eugene "Chip" Burrik, 72, of Hopewell, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. He was born in Latrobe, to the late Stephen and Dolores Burrik. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Sergeant Stephen R. Burrik. He is survived by his wife of 46 years of marriage, India; a son, Marc Burrik and his wife, Lyndsay, of Greensburg; his daughter, Rachel Faas and husband, Ed; and three grandsons, Mason, Logan and Gavin Faas, of Charlotte, N.C. In addition, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Gwen Sheetz and her husband, Ken; nephews, Rick and Ryan Vincent; and niece, Laura Karnash. He will be missed by his loving furry pets, Arthur and Lizzie. Steve was a pressman by trade. In 1976, he started his own business, Sportsman Specialties Co., in Greensburg, printing and distributing wildlife artwork for the late Ned Smith, Bob Sopchick, Rob Stine and many others. In 1997, he opened Thomas Kinkade Signature Galleries throughout Western Pennsylvania and Key West, Fla. Steve was an avid outdoorsman, which allowed him to travel the world, hunting and fishing. Most days you could find him at Yellow Creek, fly fishing with his best friend, Greg, or sharing special moments with his grandsons. Steve and his family would like to extend a special thank-you for the countless hours of dedication to his health: Dr. Hasan Bit-Shawish, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center of Altoona, UPMC Hospice Team and Michelle, his home health nurse. We will always be forever grateful for all you have done. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 218 St. Cecilia Road, Whitney, PA 15693. Arrangements are by AKERS FUNERAL HOME INC., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project. www.woundedwarriorsproject.org. Online condolences may be expressed at www.akersfuneralhome.com.

My condolences to Steve’s family. I remember Steven from many, many years ago as a very cooperative and good kid in home room 215. And also
India McClure (?) as an equally very pleasant and good student as well! If memory hasn’t failed me over the years, Steve was on the wrestling team.
So sorry for all of you to lose such a fine person so young.
Mr. Jack A. Graham. (HAHS - Ret)
