C. Qualey Obituary

Dr. C. Thomas Qualey, of Greensburg, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019. He was born Nov. 9, 1945, in Braddock, a son of Marion Qualey and the late Charles Edward Qualey. From a young age, Tom was considered an exceptional athlete, becoming one of the youngest baseball pitchers recruited for the Little Pirates youth baseball team. One of the highlights of his athletic career was being a member of the undefeated Braddock High School Tigers football team, which earned him induction into the WPIAL Hall of Fame. He received a football scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a doctorate degree in medical dentistry. Shortly afterward, Tom enlisted in the Navy, where he served as a dental officer on the USS Enterprise in the Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam. After separation from the Navy, Tom continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a specialty degree in periodontics. He will not only be remembered for his 47 years of dedication to his dental practice and the community, but also his lifelong devotion to his faith and the Catholic Church. Tom will be missed by his loving wife of 30 years, Diane (Yakubisin) Qualey; his children, Chuck Qualey (Anna), Doug Qualey (Kimberly), and Maggie Qualey (Ryan Tubbs); five grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Lauren Qualey, Zach Doiron, Sydney Qualey and Luke Stalus; a sister, Donna Lockner (Tom); and several nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his father, Tom was preceded in death by his first wife, Christine (Surniak) Qualey.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, in the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 4, in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Greensburg. (Everyone please go directly to the church). Interment with military honors will take place in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.

I could not believe it when I got the Legacy remembrance for Dr. Qualey that it will be five years this Friday that he died. I still think of him, and I wanted his loved ones to know that I shall remember him in a special way this Good Friday when I go to the service. He was an important person in the lives of many. "We have loved him life. Let us not forget him in death" is one of my favorite phrases. I shall not forget Dr. Qualey.

My daughter Cassie had some periodontal work done by Dr. Qualey. He treated her so well with professionalism and most of all love and kindness. My wife and I found him to be a top notch Doctor and always had time to chat with us about life. He had a funny dry sense of humor. Sadly missed by our family. Gary. Dee. Cassie. Indiana

We were so saddened to hear of Dr. Qualey's passing today. He was more than a Dr. he was a friend to his long-time patients. We will always treasure the many candid conversations we've had over the years. We were honored and privileged to have known him for over 40 years.
We extend our sincere heartfelt sympathy to Diane and his family. He will always be remembered.
Love and prayers to each of you.

Dr. Tom always put his patients and friends ahead of himself. It was a privilege to work with him, to play golf with him, and to enjoy his dry sense of humor. His passing leaves a significant void for those of us who were close to him. Our deepest sympathy to Diane, Chuck, Doug and Maggie.

What an absolute shock to hear of his passing. He was one of the best dentists I have ever had. His care and concern about my problem (and I am sure of all his patients) was genuine. His sense of humor was something that helped calm me. I pray for peace and comfort for his family and his colleagues. He will be deeply missed by many.

I was referred to Dr Qualey by my regular dentist many years ago, and have been a patient ever since. He was always very serious in treating his patients, but there was always a touch of humor about him.

I offer my deepest condolences to his family. Rest in peace, you will be missed.

My wife Anne and I are so saddened at Tom's passing on. He was a good and worthy man. He loved his family, worked very hard at his profession, and shared with his friends his passion for(and frustrations with)golf. His modesty kept him from being overly exuberant about his children, but when relaxing in the afternoon, after a round of golf, his pride and affection would shine through. Deepest condolences to Diane, Chuck, Doug, Maggie and their families. John and Anne Driscoll

Dr. Qualey was an extraordinary dentist and a remarkable human being. He was dedicated to his profession, concerned for his patients, and genuinely funny. He was my dentist for many years, even though I moved to Pittsburgh. He was worth the drive east.

My sincere sympathy to his wife and family. I never met any of you, but I often felt I knew you because he spoke so often of your achievements and his love for you. He will be missed not only by you, but for those, like me, who loved him and were stunned by his death.

The last thing he would say to me each time I left the office was, "Don't forget to pay for me." I never did, and I never will. Rest in peace, Dr. Qualey. That eighth grade nun, whom you remembered with little fondness I am sure was waiting for you in heaven, the place she said you'd never make it to. I have no doubt you did.
