James Visconti Obituary

Dr. James W. Visconti, D.C., of Latrobe, passed away in the loving arms of his wife of 55 years, and surrounded by his children on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011. Born Feb. 22, 1936, in Latrobe, he was a son of Ernest E. and Katherine Casey Visconti. He was preceded in death by a sister, Vallie (Dr. Edward J.) Sarp, and brothers, Dr. C. William Bostrom and Jack E. Bostrom, an infant son, Edward, twin granddaughters, Amy and Amanda Neiderhiser, and grandson, Benjamin Yancey. He practiced chiropractic in Latrobe since March 1, 1959, and was very proud of his profession and the opportunity to welcome each and every new chiropractor to the area. His patients loved his quick wit and humor and the fact that his motto was, "just give me a call when you need another adjustment." When he wasn't taking care of his patients, he spent his time with his "girlfriend" and wife, Sylvia, as well as his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a passion for reading and literacy and passed this on especially to his grandchildren by giving them the "words of the week," to enhance their vocabulary. His library included many books on Ronald Reagan, who he admired greatly. Jim graduated from Greater Latrobe Senior High School, attended Indiana State Teachers College, Seton Hill College and Moline Community College prior to graduating from Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He was a member of the Latrobe Kiwanis Club for 40 years and served as president, club secretary and director. He was a past member of the Latrobe Juvenile Commission, past member of Latrobe Parks and Recreation board of directors, member and past officer of Latrobe BPO Elks, past member of Latrobe Toastmasters Club and past member of local, state and national chiropractic organizations. He was a member of Holy Family Church and served as head usher for many years. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 55 years, Sylvia J. (Angus) Visconti; and five children, Denise (James) Neiderhiser, of Mt. Pleasant, Ernest (Martie) Visconti, of Pinole, Calif., Thomas Visconti, of Bradenville, Donna (Blake) Hauser, of Latrobe, and Anna M. (Frank) Peagler, of Unity Township. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Ryan J. Neiderhiser, of Greensburg, Caitlin Neiderhiser and Luke Neiderhiser, of Mt. Pleasant; Ethan Visconti, of Pinole, Calif.; Sarah, Julie and Emily Visconti, of Latrobe; Maria (Chad) Daniels, of Ligonier; Cara Yancey, of Pittsburgh; Christopher Yancey; James J. (Sarah) Peagler, of Unity Township; Sydney and Isabelle Peagler, of Unity Township. He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren. Family will receive guests from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Holy Family Church, Latrobe, with the Most Rev. Daniel C. Mahoney as celebrant. Dr. Visconti requested that in lieu of flowers, please make donations either to Holy Family Church or to Adams Memorial Library in Latrobe.
