Vannas D. Hagerstrand, 93, formerly of Monessen, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, in Medina, Ohio. Vannas was born Oct. 23, 1918, in Hampshire County, W.Va., to the late Daniel and Esther (Wolford) Daugherty. She graduated from Monessen High School in 1937, and Douglas Business College 1938. Vannas was a homemaker, member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 266 in Medina, Ohio, and Chapter No. 205 in Monessen. She delivered Meals on Wheels for 18 years, was a Red Cross volunteer for 15 years and AARP member for 15 years in Pennsylvania. She is survived by her son-in-law, Anthony Bonfiglio; grandchildren, A. Charles (Mona) Bonfiglio, Daniel J. (Barb) Bonfiglio and Elizabeth (Donald) Linden; great-grandchildren, Abdul-Baari Haadi, and Lujean and William Grant Bonfiglio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Gary Winfield; and daughter, Joy H. Bonfiglio. Services will be held Monday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. at the WAITE AND SON FUNERAL HOME, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St., Medina, Ohio. Rev. Thomas Schwartz will officiate. Family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Eastern Star Services will be Monday at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Monessen, with an Eastern Star Service at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the cemetery chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local Meals on Wheels. Online condolences may be left at www.waitefuneralhome.com.
