Ralph McClain Obituary

Ralph L. "Fritz" McClain, 80, of Brackenridge, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, following a lengthy illness, with his family by his side. He was born July 13, 1940, in Harrison Township, to the late Ralph R. and Betty (Luh) McClain. Fritz lived most of his life in Brackenridge and Natrona Heights, where he was the owner/operator of the Saxon Inn, Restaurant and Bar in Natrona Heights for 45 years. He was of the Presbyterian faith and a life member of Citizens Hose, Natrona Heights and former member of Tarentum Elks. Fritz graduated from New Kensington High School and was an avid Steelers fan. Fritz enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren. Fritz loved and enjoyed his many customers who were also his friends. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Kathy (Vertosick) McClain; his daughters, Lisa (Bill) Hall, of Wampum, Pa., Michelle (Adam) Gutonski, of Natrona Heights, and Josie McClain; five grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Also surviving are his siblings, Jerry McClain, Karen Ostroski, Linda Ostroski, Connie Matsik and Judy Ruemmler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepfather, Lou Ostroski; and a stepmother, Eleanor (Schaeffer)McClain. A private family visitation was held from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 6 p.m. Wednesday in DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., 347 E. 10th Ave., Tarentum, 724-224-1526. Burial will be private. Hi Grandpa, picture of my current view, wish you were still here so you could visit and see europe. You'd be happy to know that Yuengling is in Germany, and almost all of my coworkers are some how from Pittsburgh lol. I miss you dearly and your voice. Two years somehow and it feels like it was yesterday when I lost you. Love you.

I remember Fritz well going all the way back to grade school. Over the years I have often thought of him, even after all these years. He was always so nice and always showed respect. In fact just a couple days ago he came to mind, and wondered where he was and how he was. Odd that I would then find that he had passed away. He was a wonderful classmate. My sympathy to all of Fritz's family.
