i worked for dan 87 to 1990 or so I loved working there. the staff was incredible wild bill freddie ,coopie and the man who ran the kitchen on cafe monaco side he was hilarious a hockey, metal music fan. Danny brought this family together he was a brilliant Restaurateur. I had mentioned to danny that I had done the first Allegheny county rib cookoff so the next 2 years we did the cookoffs.it would take all day to reminisce about these events but these memories will last a life time I still have pictures with Danny and I together at the rib cookoff. Danny was a hard working wild and crazy guy Danny's legacy for Quality and Perfection will live on forever

I met Mr. Monaco twenty years ago at his restaurant. He sat down beside me and started talking with me. We exchanged the usual get to know you chitchat and had a very pleasurable conversation. After several moments talking with him, I realized what a genuine, kind and compassionate person this man was. I have never forgotten the chance meeting with this man and will always remember this unique individual. The world has lost a truly wonderful person.
I would like to give my condolences and sympathy to the Monaco family. Daniel is a fine man, I will never forget him. God bless his family and he Rest In Peace.

I have not seen Danny In a long time...But when I heard of his passing, my heart broke. I worked at Hoffstot's, and then Cafe Monaco, with Paula in the early 90's. I loved the Monaco family. I loved working there. I remember Danny sitting in the Big booth in the cafe, and Tommy after a busy night. They always asked how I was ...how was my family etc. This was an amazing time to work at Hoffstot's, the Stealers came in and it never stopped! I loved working there and Loved the Monaco family. I am so very sorry for your loss. He was an Amazing person. Danny was strict with how he wanted things done...but he had a heart of Gold. He was larger than life...and his presence lit up the place!! also made you stay on your toes! We had so many laughs and I have so many memories of him, Tommy, Fran and their Parents sitting together after work, counting tips and talking. It was a Special time, and I worked at the Best Restaurant for a wonderful family. My deepest Sympathy to Tommy, Fran, Debbie and your daughters. He will be missed by so many, I know that. I feel the loss in my heart and haven't seen him in a long time, That was the affect he had on people. I will never forget those days . God Bless you Danny and your family. Peace to you all. Watching Danny transform Hoffstots from a fish sandwich spot to a fine dining Italian experience was amazing to watch. He used to call me his "Lettuce Queen" when I made the fresh salads and later I got to assist his Mom make the delicious cheesecakes. Every time my husband and I went back to Oakmont years later, a trip to Cafe Monaco for dinner was a must. On our last trip to the beautiful restaurant, Danny came in on his day off to greet us and buy us a drink. Cheers to you Danny and all the lives you touched in the community. Our deepest condolences to the Monaco family.

A little light went out in my heart when I heard that you passed. We grew up together as first cousins and then as Employer-Employee cousins. Thank you for your visits to me and my mother (Aunt Helen) when you came to Florida, it meant so much to the both of us. Your heart was bigger than life! Your work ethics were impeccable just like Grandpap Seppi. Working with you as most would agree, was an experience of dedication and passion to succeed. I wish we had more time to reflect on our times together. You are an Icon that will be missed by many. Until we meet again fly with the angels and give everyone my love.
Love,

I became friends of Danny through a mutual friend, Bill Jardine in the late 1980's. This relationship spanned working with Danny in the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association and frequently enjoying his personality and delicious food in his marvelous restaurants with our families. Special occasions, or just an unexpected stop at one of his restaurants always were a memorable experience, great food, wonderful service, and a stop by Danny at the table to make sure everything was exceptional. His smile, quick response, and the twinkle in his eye will always be remembered. Rest in Peace.

My condolences go out to the Monaco Family. I have known Dan for about 15 years. He was one GREAT guy. He was a good friend and Mentor to me throughout those 15 years. I will miss him dearly. My wife and I met at the corner of the bar at Hoffstot's and ended up getting married a few years later. We have so many great memories spent with Danny at both Hoffstot's and Chelsea. I also had the pleasure working on the Plumbing at both places for Danny over the years.
God Bless my Friend You will never be forgotten.

To the entire Monaco family: I am so sorry that we have lost Danny. I worked with Danny and Tommy and Tom Sr. for 8 years, especially during the transition from Hoffstots to Cafe Monaco and more. That was 50 years ago. What a privilege it was to work with the Monaco family, and especially Danny in the kitchen. They employed several members of my family (The Hartman's) as we worked our way through college and beyond. Danny was always a person of his word and always worked just as hard as what he expected from those who worked with him. His passing is a loss for many of us, but he leaves a legacy of those to whom he gave the opportunity to work hard and pursue their own dreams. His influence stretches far and wide. He will live on in the lives of many.

My deepest sympathies and prayers to the entire family. I worked many years ago at the restaurant for a short period. Danny practiced “Management by Walking Around” and as a young college student, I witnessed the effectiveness of this style; to this day I reflect on this and practice “MBWA” regularly in my own career. He may not have known he was “schooling” me, but his lesson was well noted and has helped me in my own career. He always took an interest in me and my family when we would come to the restaurant and his hospitality is unrivaled. Thanks for the lesson Danny.

We were very saddened to hear of Danny’s passing. We express our sincere condolences and sympathies to the Monaco family and the Hoffstot’s and Chelsea Grill families as well. I will remember Danny as the consummate professional in running his restaurants, along with his brother Tommy. Danny would also greet us at the table to say hi. Both restaurants are true Pittsburgh landmarks in serving consistently quality food and atmosphere that cannot be reviled anywhere. They are truly one of the most successful restaurants anywhere which is a great attribute to both Danny and Tommy. May he Rest In Peace with the Lord.
