Dorothy Roach Obituary

Dorothy Jean Roach, 90, of Cheswick, passed away peacefully at home with family at her side Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021. She was born May 5, 1930, to the late Walter and Isabella Robertson Walmsley and was a lifelong resident of the Allegheny-Kiski Valley. She was a wonderful homemaker who loved to cook and made everyone feel welcome in her home and at the dinner table. Initially a self-taught artist, Dorothy later enjoyed her art classes with Liz McClusky. If you have one of her pieces, consider yourself blessed, as it was her wish to share her art at the annual Walmsley family reunions. She loved attending the Hoboken Presbyterian Church and was always delighted to see her nieces and nephews in "Niece's Row" on Sundays. Mrs. Roach also liked to research her family ancestry on the web. Dorothy, along with her late husband, Jim, loved their bird, Pickles, loved to travel to reunions out west and cherished all the friendships and memories she formed with her neighbors since 1955. Surviving her are her sons, James (DeEtt) Roach, of Idaho, Jack Roach, of Cheswick, Robert (Edwynna) Roach, of West Deer, and Joseph Roach, of Idaho; daughters, Marsha Martin, of Idaho, and Marilyn (Garry) Collie, of Washington; siblings, John, Robert, Margaret, Walter, Alexander, Eliza, James, Howard, Isabella, Anna, Janet and Patricia; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, James S. Roach, in 2015, her son, Jeffrey Roach, in 2008 and son-in-law, James Martin. Services and interment will be private for her immediate family. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date when everyone can attend. Arrangements supervised by THE CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St., Springdale PA 15144, www.jarviefuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, her family recommends memorial contributions be sent to Hoboken Presbyterian Church, 921 North Ave., Blawnox PA 15238.
