DOLLY GIES Obituary

Dolly Greco Gies Died on September 7th, 2014. She was born on September 26, 1930 to Italian immigrants James and Elvira Greco, Portland, Oregon. After graduating from high school she worked as a secretary. She married and then moved to Moses Lake, WA where she lived for six years and where her three children were born. The family then moved to Lakewood. She worked for a year as a legal secretary and then was employed at Pierce County District Court, retiring in late 1993 after 27 years. Mother's retirement years were the best of her life. She was able to spend more time with her family and friends. She loved to read and was interested in politics, current events, and she loved the internet, having her first personal computer in 1991. Dolly's family always came first with her. Dolly is survived by her daughters, Sharon Munoz and Joanne Gies, and her son Larry Gies (Linda), her granddaughter Abbie Chalcraft (Doug). She is also survived by her sister Eva Foley of Portland and niece Nancy Newcomb (Wayne) and their three children (Harry Newcomb, Tina Bean, and LeeAnn Appiah). She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Pete Munoz. At her request there will be no services.

I have known Dolly and family for many years. Dolly was a kind and compassionate person with a great sense of justice. She was interested in the events of our world and always seemed to have a thoughtful view of them when asked.
I was fortunate to be able to share some time with Dolly when she was surrounded by her kids. There was an abundance of love and laughter that always added joy to all surrounding her. She will be missed.

Dolly was a wonderful human being. I started as a young deputy prosecutor in district court. Dolly and I became fast friends and remained close friends for thirty years. We discussed everything from politics, religion and current events. I will miss our conversations.

So sorry for the loss of your mother, she was truly a very sweet lady and was a wonderful friend to our mom Marie.

Dolly Gies was an insightful reader of persons and politics -had an always curious mind and a generous heart. I'll miss our conversations; we covered territory from ancient history to current events, from her latest read -and what she had on hold at the library - to mine, and back. Her finest accomplishment and gift to the world was her children. Sharon, Larry, Joanne -my prayers are with you as you miss your mom.
