JANE CHISHOLM Obituary

Jane Leake Chisholm At 102 years old, our beloved Gigi peacefully passed away on March 17, 2016 in Lakewood, WA. She was born in 1914 in New York, NY to her parents Joseph Bryant Leake and Susan Hubbell Seymour Leake. Her mother died in 1918 from the Spanish Flu and her father died within 6 months in 1919 in a car accident while travelling home from Princeton University. Jane and her siblings William, Virginia, and Susan Barbara went to live with their grandfather, Julius Hubbell Seymour, on Lake Champlain, Isle La Motte, VT. Due to his failing health, Jane and her siblings (all 4 children under the age of 8) moved to Tacoma and were adopted by their uncle, former Mayor of Tacoma W.W. Seymour and his wife Emily, where fresh air, exercise, and education were part of their daily lives. Jane attended Annie Wright Seminary, the University of Washington and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Jane was a longtime resident of Lakewood, where she raised her family at a home on American Lake. She was an avid gardener, reader, golfer, knitter, and organ and piano player. Gigi loved reading the classics to her great-grandchildren as well as playing tea party with them. Preceded in death by many loved ones, including her husband William W. Chisholm DVM, son William Seymour Deering and grandson Christopher Denison, she is survived by her daughters Harriet Sue Smith, Susan Denison, and Joan Palma, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Millie and staff at Crested Crane ADF for their loving care of Gigi. Thanks also to Bridgeport Place, Franciscan Palliative Care, and Hospice. Remembrances may be made to the W.W. Seymour Botanical Conservatory or the YMCA Camp Seymour.
