Vanessa Crowe Obituary

Vanessa Crowe
November 19, 1940 - November 9, 2020
Puyallup, Washington - Heaven shines a little brighter today. On Monday, November 9th Barbara Vanessa Crowe passed away. Vanessa was born in Deadwood, SD to Harry and Helene Christler. She grew up in Arlington, WA. After graduating, she attended Western Washington University. It is there she met her husband Ron Crowe. She was a cheerleader and he played basketball. They eventually settled in Puyallup. She was First Lady of Puyallup during Ron's six years serving as Mayor from 1984-1990. One of Vanessa's many gifts was her love for social activities with her many friends. She was extremely active as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Puyallup. She also started a Birthday Club, Bridge Club, and Book Club. Vanessa had a 40 year career as a Real Estate Agent and ended her career at Lee LaBrash Real Estate. She was a blessing to many, particularly her family and beloved grandkids. She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Ron, daughters Bronwyn (Mario) and Hillary (Scott), brother H. Emery Christler, brother in law Dick (Sally) Crowe and sister in law Susan (Norm) Johnson, 5 grandkids Sienna, Stefon, and Saige Lyons, and Avery and Gavin Robinson. She is preceded in death by her sister Naveda Sherk and was very loved by her 4 nieces and 2 nephews. Vanessa had great love for God and all God's creatures. Her love of life was felt by all fortunate enough to know her. Honorariums may be sent to Puyallup First Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund. We hope to have a Celebration of Life in the future.

I still miss going to visit Vanessa at the nursing home every Thursday afternoon. COVID canceled our visits but we could still talk by phone. I think of her everyday and send up a prayer for her and her family.

My deepest sympathy to all of Vanessa’s family. She leaves behind a family who loved her warm, kind and vivacious spirit. The Crowes were one of the first families I met as a new teacher @ West Puyallup Jr High. Ron (Sr) helped me open my first checking account @ Citizen State Bank. Ron and Vanessa were kind and welcoming at the Puyallup First Presbyterian Church. Years later
Vanessa and I shared such fun memories of Mom’s Weekend at WSU with our Pi Phi daughters - Hillary and Heidi. My heart goes out to all your family. May you find comfort in one another and all the wonderful memories you share.

I met and got to know Vanessa through her college sweetheart and hubby of 58 years, Ron. Boy did he marry up! She was such a pleasant lady to be around and a beautiful spirit. I remember one of the last times I saw Vanessa, she was in her wheelchair and not able to get around on her own, but she still had such a smile on her face and was quick to laugh. You just would never have known she was having physical challenges because her spirit was so bright. My thoughts and prayers go out to Ron and the whole family. You have an angel waiting for you ...

Vanessa was a cherished friend for over 50 years.
She started our Book Club that combined a diverse group of women that filled the room with laughter and occasionally discussed books.

We travelled together and celebrated November birthdays. She started a Dinner Group with the most indelible memory being a fondue pot exploding in their dining room, no injuries but the wallpaper was never the same.

Vanessa adored her children and grandchildren and happily shared the highlights of their lives.

I will miss her.

I was a member of "Birthday Club" & our group has met for over 50 years. We shared many delicious dinners in our younger years but when cataracts developed we switched to luncheons. And spent many an afternoon at the restaurants along Tacoma's waterfront. We always joked that one day we'd have to switch to breakfast. What I remember most from those meals is that Vanessa was so funny. She would tell us about the latest escapades of her family and we would be wiping our eyes from tears of laughter. I spent many a Thursday at the Nursing Home and we continued to bring each other up-to-date regarding children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. I regret that I haven't been able to visit her due to COVID but we could, at least, talk on the phone. These past 3 plus years have not been easy for her but she is now free from pain. Rest in Peace, dear friend.
