Adam Dobereiner Obituary

Private First Class Adam Dobereiner, 21 of Moline, Illinois, died Friday, November 18, 2011 while serving his country in the Kandahar Province of Afghanistan as a Combat Engineer. Adam was on a mission to free two villages from Taliban control when the vehicle he was driving was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2011, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, December 2, 2011, at the Broadway Presbyterian Church, 710 23rd St., Rock Island, with additional visitation from 10 until service time. Burial will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to the family. Adam was born on November 21, 1989 in Rock Island, Illinois to Christopher and Lee Ann (Smith) Dobereiner. He was engaged to Jenna Schmitt and was to be married January 3, 2012. Adam graduated from Moline High School in 2008. There he participated in wrestling, football, and building trades. Adam then enrolled as a student at Black Hawk College. Following a long line of family military service, Adam enlisted in the United States Army in 2010 and graduated training as a Combat Engineer. Adam was deployed to Afghanistan, July 6, 2011. Adam's family was very important to him; they were one of his great sources of joy. His sense of responsibility and desire to serve others did not begin with his decision to enlist in the military, but rather was evident in his character from the time he was a young boy. Adam was passionate and determined, never doing things halfway, and he always seemed to approach life with a glad and cheerful heart. Whether it was helping distribute food at church, shoveling a sidewalk for someone, giving his best effort for his team or choosing to give up his weekends to care for his Great Grandfather in the last months of his life, he always stepped up. Survivors include Mother Lee Ann Dobereiner, Moline, Father Christopher Dobereiner, Moline, Siblings: Christopher Lorenze (Kelly) Dobereiner II, East Moline, Helen Teresa (Marty) Dobereiner-Durbin, Chatham, IL, and Ann Marie Dobereiner, Fort Stewart, GA.
