Barbara Schulhofer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 14, 2011.
COLUMBIA Barbara Backstrom Schulhofer, a longtime resident of Columbia, and formerly of Muskegon, MI, peacefully passed away on Friday January 14, 2011. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Einar Strom, husband, Joseph Schulhofer and daughter, Karla Strom. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Gene Marcial; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Courtney and Phil Leaphart; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Howey Walsh and Laura Sciara; granddaughter, Sarah Stone; five great-grandchildren, Craig, Ronni, Erica, Heather and Wiloh. Barbara was a lover of books, an avid golfer, politico, world traveler, midnight streaker, and equifile. Her lifelong passion for horses was most evident by Maplewood – the horse farm in Muskegon, where she raised her twin girls. Barb, or “BJ as she was affectionately known to many, will be remembered for her friendships. She was an exceptional friend who could always be counted on for sound and honest advice, sharp wit, good, wicked humor and her infectious joie de vivre philosophy of living. Perhaps best explained by Barb herself when asked what her favorite subject in school was – recess. She had an adventurers’ spirit and an active social life. Barbara’s family would like to thank all of her friends for their love, kindness and unwavering affection. We especially would like to give heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to CoNette Fidler, devoted and loyal friend, and to all of Barb’s neighbors. To the staff at Lowman home, thank you for making her a part of your family too. Everyone who encountered Barb was touched by her in some way. We thank you all for your quiet prayers. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association, 520 Gervais Street, Suite 300, Columbia, SC 29201 or Susan G. Komen Foundation, Lowcountry Affiliate, 9302 Medical Plaza Drive, Suite #E, Charleston, SC 29406. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
