Carol Teipen Obituary

Published by Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory - Greenwood Chapel on Sep. 13, 2020.
Carol Jo Teipen, 72, passed away Sunday morning, September 13, 2020 at her residence in Greenwood surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 14, 1947 in Wabash, IN to Ralph and Martha (Stone) Barnhouse. She married Michael Teipen on November 8, 1969 in Indianapolis. Surviving are her loving family, husband Michael Teipen; two sons, Jeremy (Georgeanna) Teipen of Greenfield and Jonathan (Becky) Teipen of Seattle, WA; three daughters, Monique (Brian) Baker of Louisville, KY, Jennifer (Matthew) Long of Charlotte, NC, and Rebekah (Josh) Sohar of Indianapolis; one brother, Jack (Lila) Barnhouse of Punta Gorda, FL; and thirteen grandchildren, Miranda Nehrig, Schuyler Nehrig, Isaac Baker, Ella Baker, Abby Baker, Kinley Teipen, Serie Teipen, Norah Long, Henry Long, Landen Allen-Sohar, Maci Allen-Sohar, Mia Allen-Sohar, and Olivia Sohar. Carol began her career as an elementary school teacher for Whiteland Community School Corporation, after earning her Master's Degree in Education from Indiana University. She stepped back from teaching in 1973 to pursue a career that was closer to her heart, and would epitomize her loving nature: motherhood. Later, Carol was co-owner and office manager of Kitchens By Teipen in Greenwood. She was a devoted member of Community Church of Greenwood. She was involved in its discipleship and shepherding ministries, and also volunteered at The Gathering Place. She found great fulfillment with her Kitchen Table Bible Study group, and looked forward to their weekly time together. She was so calm and gentle, never seeming to be annoyed and always offering a listening ear and sound advice. Her love was focused on nurturing her children and grandchildren and encouraging them to trust in the Lord. She personified a Proverbs 31 wife. Her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren. Friends may visit the family from 1-4 PM, Saturday, September 19, at the Community Church of Greenwood, 1477 W. Main Street, Greenwood. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org/impact.

Mike and kids, Tom and I have so many wonderful memories of our friendship. House boating, sharing prayer concerns . You were like a second family to our son. Your witness to the love of Christ and His sustaining peace and comfort through the years and especially these past months is an encouragement to all who walked this road with you. We love you all and continue to pray for you.
