Edward Kobily Obituary

Edward S. Kobily, 82, of Weirton, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. Born November 7, 1931 in New Cumberland, WV, he was a son of the late Steven and Rose Norwicki Kobily. He was also preceded in death by his son Michael Kobily in 2001 and infant sister Loretta Kobily. With 30 years of service, "Fast Eddie" retired from Weirton Steel, where he worked as an assistant roller. He was an active member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister for the homebound parishioners and helped with bingo as a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Knights of Columbus 3734. He will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor. Eddie enjoyed fishing in Canada, where he was known as "Wall-Eye Eddie" and was an avid collector of glass canes, coins and stamps. Edward served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Kobily is survived by his wife Kathryn Gillen Kobily, whom he married June 19, 1954; daughter Karen Korbel and her husband Stephen all of Weirton; brothers Steven (Mary) Kobily, Bernard (Sue) Kobily all of Deltona, FL, and Raymond (Marsha) Kobily of Weirton; sister Laverne (James) Sutak of Follansbee, WV and grandchildren Savanna Korbel and Jenna Jaskolka. Visitation will be held Thursday 3-7PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Friday at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church. The Reverend Father Anthony G. Thurston will officiate. Entombment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.
