Evdokia Dimakis Obituary

Published by Driscoll Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Jul. 25, 2017.
HAVERHILL – Evdokia (Georgine) Dimakis, 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, surrounded by her beloved husband and family. She was born on September 25, 1935 on the beautiful island of Chios, Greece, daughter to the late Nikolaos and Venetia Georgine. She spent most of her early years on the island and spent some time in Pireaus, Greece where she was educated at the prestigious Zandark French Catholic High School. In 1955 Evdokia fell in love and married her one true love, Antonios Dimakis, together for well over a half of century for 62 years and married for 57 years. Their love was very rare and their story is one you write books about. She will forever be in Antonio's heart and will be missed very dearly. In 1975 she immigrated to the United States with her husband and three sons, Kostantinos, Nikolaos and Stavros. She became a proud citizen of the United States and resided in Haverhill, Massachusetts where she raised a beautiful family. She kept strong relations with her family in Greece and made yearly visits throughout her lifetime. Evdokia was an active member of the Holy Apostles Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church located in Haverhill. Her family has been the proud owners of Mark's Deli in downtown Haverhill for 41 years where she had met some wonderful people. Evdokia was a woman of style and particular about making sure everything was perfect from her attire, writing a simple card to making her famous Greek pastries. Known to many as "YiaYia" and for making sure everyone was well fed, she would never let you walk into her home without getting you to drink or eat something or take something with you on your way out. Whatever she had she would offer from a bottle of wine or Ouzo to chocolates, Greek food and pastries. Her best quality was the love she had for her family and others. A woman with a heart of gold that put everyone's needs before her own was loved and respected by so many and her memory will live on forever. In addition to her loving husband, Evdokia's family members include her sons Kostantinos Dimakis and his late wife Jennifer Dimakis of Haverhill; Nikolaos Dimakis and his wife Maria Dimakis of Taunton; Stavros Dimakis and his wife Julie Dimakis of Haverhill; sister Triandafillia Zannikou; nephew Filoktimon Nanos; cherished grandsons Antonios K Dimakis, Nathan Dimakis, Antonios N Dimakis, Stavros Dimakis, Manoli Dimakis and the one and only granddaughter and her namesake Evthokia Dimakis. Visiting hours will be Sunday, July 30, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Bradford from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Service will begin Monday in the funeral home at 10:00 AM. Funeral Service at Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter Street, Haverhill at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the High Pointe Hospice House in her name. On behalf of the Dimakis family we would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the loving support the Hospice House provided our family at such a difficult time.
