George Voldan, age 91, of Angleton [formally of El Campo] passed away on Saturday January 25, 2014 at Cypress Woods Care Center in Angleton. He was born on June 21, 1922, in Fayette Co., Texas to the late Frank and Ruzena Migl Voldan. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II From November 24, 1942 to February 26, 1946, where he held the rank of Corporal in the 183rd Service Command Unit, receiving the American Theater Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2490, American Legion Post 251, and the Brazos Bend Good Sams Club. On November 27, 1946 he married the love of his life, Martha Kunetka, who preceded him in death on March 30, 1994. To this union, they were blessed with five children. During their marriage, they made their homes in Eagle Lake, Sealy, and Bay City, before finally settling down in El Campo. In 2005, he moved to Lake Jackson. During his lifetime, George worked as a farmer, soda and beer salesman, service station manager, and owner of George's Tavern before retiring as a tire repairman. Survivors include his daughters, Gloria [Joe] Konvicka and Carolyn [Frankie] Cernoch of El Campo, Beverly [Richard Jr.] Kolonko of Lake Jackson; sons Stanley [Karen] Voldan of Hillje, Henry [Sharon] Voldan of El Campo, 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandsons. Also surviving are his sister Henrietta [Melton] Machacek of El Campo and brother Daniel [Isabel] Voldan of Richmond, numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Elsie Vasek of Katy, Irene and Jimmie Hubenak of Hillje, Mary and Johnnie Mican of El Campo, Dorothy and Leo Graves of Fort Worth and very dear friend Florence Henske of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister and brother-in-laws, Mary Barcak and husband Ladik; Clara Fojtik Svec and husband's Robert Fojtik and William Svec; brothers John Voldan and Frank Voldan Jr. and wife Louise; brother-in-laws Travis Koester, Henry Vasek and Julius Kunetka. Visitation will begin on Tuesday January 28 at 12 pm at Triska Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday January 29 at 2:30 pm at St. Philips Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park with Military Honors under the auspices of American Legion Post 251. Pallbearers include his grandsons Heath Voldan, Jonathan Voldan, Steven Voldan, Bryan Voldan, Chris Cernoch, and Michael Cernoch. Honorary pallbearers include his granddaughters and their spouses and his great-grandchildren. A very special thank you goes out to the staff of Cypress Woods Care Center in Angleton, the staff of Angleton-Danbury Medical Center in Angleton, the staff of Elmcroft Assisted Living, the A-Med Community Hospice, and his many family and friends. Memorial donations in memory of George may be made to A-Med Community Hospice.
