Janice J. Vreim

Janice J. Vreim passed away March 24, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Home in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 28th at 2:00 p.m. at Wilmot Lutheran Church. Rev. Sheila Pohl will officiate and burial will be in the Wilmot Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the service. The organist will be Janice (Mrs. Orville) Vreim. Casket bearers will be: Tracy Wittrock, Harold Thaden, Gerald Thaden, Orrin Scholberg, Willis Hanson, and Jack Hippen. Janice Joan Vreim was born February 5, 1941, in Wilmot, SD. She was the daughter of Oscar and Hannah (Hippen) Vreim. Janice graduated from Wilmot High School in 1958. During her high school years she was the church organist. She moved to Sioux Falls, SD and attended Augustana College for two years. She taught kindergarten one year in Sioux Falls while she continued her education. She graduated in 1962. Janice moved to California to resume her teaching career. She taught for eight years. She later worked for a stock brokerage firm, then began her 28 year career with Bechtel Engineering Corporation, in San Francisco. During her time with Bechtel, she worked three years in Cairo, Egypt on a power plant project. While in Egypt she had the opportunity to travel. She visited The Holy Land, Greece and enjoyed an African Safari. She retired from Bechtel in 2001. In her retirement years she enjoyed meeting friends for dinner, volunteering at her church, and attending the Opera. Her favorite activity was attending the San Francisco Giants baseball games. Janice travel the United States, China, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Italy and other European countries with family and friends. She experienced several earth quakes including the major one in San Francisco on October 17, 1989. She was unable to live in her condo for a period of time because of the damage and ruptured gas lines. In 2005, she moved to Sioux Falls, SD. Due to ill health she became a resident of Touchmark at All Saints assisted living facility in 2009. She moved to the Good Samaritan Center Nursing Home in 2012. Janice passed away March 24, 2013, having reached the age of 72 years. Her death was attributed to Pick's Disease and Alzheimer's. Janice is survived by one brother, Marlowe (Rita) Vreim of Wilmot, SD; one sister, Norma (Wayne) Steinocker of Sioux Falls, SD; one aunt, Mrs. Alice Hippen of Tucson, AZ; and many cousins and friends across the United States. The family suggests memorials be given to the Wilmot Lutheran Church; Wilmot Library; Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls; Touchmark at All Saints Foundation in Sioux Falls; or to a charity of your choice.
