I sat at a desk next to John's when I started working at Harris Bank in 1977 fresh out of school. I asked a lot of questions. Probably a lot of stupid ones. John was always helpful. I remember him as a quiet, gentle person and always felt lucky to know him. One incident that always stuck with me was a large group lunch where a colleague had had too much to drink and was pestering the bank president as we walked (staggered) back from lunch. John, recognizing that the guy was risking his career, clamped his hand on the guy's shoulder and pulled him away, quickly and with good humor. I got the impression he always knew what to do. Also could tell his army service had affected him deeply. He was a good person.

"It's hard to understand why people are taken from us, but find confort in knowing you were a special part of a well-lived life."
We have lost a friend , a professional, a caring man. I had the pleasure to work with John and be able to absorbed his experience, caring and wisdom.
He will be missed by those who knew and work with him at Harris Bank.
