Joseph A. Root, Jr.

Joseph A. “Bubby� Root, Jr., son of the late Joseph A. Root, Sr. and Emily Roth Root, departed this earth on May 25, 2011 to join his soul mate and wife Barbara R. Root. He was 83 years old. His only son Joseph “Jay� Root, III, predeceased him on April 17, 2011. He is survived by 2 daughters, Kathleen Bondi (Nick) and Nancy Howard (Phil). He leaves behind his sister, Betty Clasen Boudreaux, his brother Al (Floyd) Root, Sr. predeceased him. His is survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Pat Root and Margaret Rogers of Missoula, Montana. Four grandchildren survive him; Matthew Bondi (Toni), Melissa Clark (Jimmy), Chad Howard and Kasey Gorrondona (Chris). He leaves behind 3 great grandchildren; Rhyne Howard, Savanna Gorrondona and James Clark. He is also survived by 2 step grandchildren, Nicole Knight (Shawn) and Sgt. Dave Howard and their children. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews whom he adored. He was a member of the U. S. Army. Bubby was stationed in Brooklyn, NY and Ft. Benning, GA. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal. He later rejoined the family business, Azalea Dairy, which was located in Old Metairie. He later worked for Jefferson Parish School System as Bus Driver #308. The family extends special thanks to Odyssey Hospice; Sharon, Mahaley, Scarlette and Birdie, as well as Home Instead Sr. Care, especially, Tonya Pickette, who has been a special angel and very devoted care giver. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2605 River Road, New Orleans, LA 70121.
