I last saw Joe in 1971 as we served in VAW-114 aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. In all of these years, I've remembered Joe's friendly nature and the pleasure of being in his company. In more recent years, I enjoyed communicating with him following our reconnect online.

Dear Pat and family, I was sad to hear of Joe's passing. May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Joe, what a friend and friend of many in the hobby of collecting toy soldiers. His love of the hobby was infectious; he was there when we got started offering advice and friendship not just to me but to all. He offered opportunities and fun; what a great guy. Each year we met at OTSN in Chicago, the big toy show. So often, unlike most of the other guys, he brought his family for a couple days of shopping and fun because he never wanted to leave them behind. Great kids, wonderful wife, Joe you were the best. May God bless you and keep you, and give comfort to those you left behind who mourn the loss of a wise, often jolly and very good friend. - Rusty Kern, Publisher, Playset Magazine

Pat's mom. is my dear friend Gloria McGrath. We taught at St. Denis, and car-pooled numerous times. I felt like I knew Pat & Joe's family as Gloria shared their events with me every day as I did the same with her. We became close friends so I consider myself kind of a 'friend-in-law', if you will. Joe was in my daily prayers during his sickness and I will continue those prayers for the Jorio and McGrath families. He was well loved and cherished by all. How lucky the world was to have been blessed by his presence among us. Peace,

My condolences to the Joria family. I knew Joe many years ago during our Chicago State days. He was a very considerate and nice young man. We met again, years later on the police department and as neighbors. He always talked about Pat and his family with such love. Rest in peace, Joe, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

What a fine young man in VAW-114 onboard USS Kitty Hawk he was! So many of us enjoyed his company during a time of long family separations. He was well liked by all of his squadron mates.

Words cannot express my sorrow. Joe and I were friends for over 40 years. He was loyal and his calming demeanor kept me grounded more times than I would like to admit. Joe lived for his wife and children, his family was his life, I so admired him for that and so much more. You will be truly missed my friend, by many.

I was so very sorry to hear of Joe's illness and passing. Joe and I served together on St. Cajetan's School Board and I always appreciated his thoughts and opinions, as his was usually the
voice of reason.
I'll never forget running into Joe as I was browsing at Border's. One of
the clerks walked up with a stack of books for Joe to autograph, as a local author, and that's when I found out he was a talented author. But Joe never bragged about any of his many accomplishments. I ran into Joe and Pat again at Smith Village when his Mom was there and was so delighted to hear the stories of her writings and how that incredible shared talent was something very special between Joe and his mom.
My prayers are with Pat and Joe's family...

My condolences to the Joria family. I worked with Joe in 018 for many years. He was a fine man with a good sense of humor, and a wealth of information. I know he'll be missed, but when you look into the sky tonight, you'll notice it a little brighter, as a new star has been added to the heavens above. God Bless.

Joe Joria and I were Lieutenants together, in Englewood. I worked on Joes watch. Englewood is a very busy Police District on Chicagos Southside. Joe was a family man. He was devoted to his wife and children. My first night in Englewood, Joe invited me to dinner, at the Book Ladys home. The Book Lady shared slightly damaged new books to Joe. Joe distributed the books throughout the Community. The Book Ladys Home was an oasis in Englewood. Her home was beautiful. Ice blue silk drapes and just a lovely place to be. We broke bread together that night. We had fried chicken and the best peach cobbler, I ever had. That night, I learned about the good people of Englewood, the people behind the doors. Joe and the Book Lady taught me that night, what Community Policing was about. It was working together, the Community and the Police to try to solve crime and make a better Community. My thanks to Joe and the Book Lady.
R.I.P., Joe. My prayers to Joe and the Joria Family.

I spent 6 months or so with Joe as a fill in Lieutenant in the 7th District during the 3 Lieutenant system. Primarily because he was a good guy, who was easy to get along with, we made it work and had a good time doing it. I am greatly saddened to hear this and I pray for him and his family.
