Kathleen Brooks Welchons

Kathleen Mary Brooks Welchons, 58, of New Hartford died Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, with her loving husband and children at her side. Kathie was born January 17, 1954 in Utica, daughter of Kathleen Murphy Brooks and the late Russell E. Brooks, Sr. Kathie was an honor student at Sacred Heart School, St. Francis De Sales School and Mohawk Valley Community College. She married Timothy M. Welchons on August 19, 1978. Kathie worked for many years at the Savings Bank of Utica. She was a teacher at the St. John the Evangelist Nursery School and was currently a teacher's assistant at New Hartford Central Schools in the Development Primary Program (DPP). She was member of St. John the Evangelist Church. Kathie was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Surviving are her husband, Timothy, her children Kelly and husband Daniel Colantuoni of New Hartford, Courtney Welchons of New York City, and Timmy Welchons of Boston, her granddaughter Clare Kathleen Colantuoni, her mother Kathleen Murphy Brooks of Utica, her sisters and brothers: Bernadette Verna of Whitesboro, Margaret Krug and her husband Roger of Whitesboro, Rod Brooks of California, Michael Brooks of Albany, Russell Brooks and wife Marianne of Utica, Brian Brooks and wife Colleen of Whitesboro and many devoted nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Russell E. Brooks, many aunts, uncles, her mother-in-law, Dorsey Welchons and a special nephew, Stephen Conway. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Anthony Scalzo and the many family and friends for all of their care and support during Kathie's illness. The funeral will be on Thursday at 1 PM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 66 Oxford Rd., New Hartford, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Calling hours are on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. In memory of Kathie, those who wish may make a donation to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or to the Kelberman Center for Autism. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
