Michael Tesak

Michael Tesak, 76, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home in New Hartford, NY. Born on October 23, 1949, in Utica, NY, he was the son of Semen and Helena Tesak, both of whom emigrated from Ukraine. Michael was a proud 1968 graduate of Utica Free Academy.

In June of 1968, Michael enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was stationed in Würzburg, Germany, where he faithfully served his country with honor and dedication.

On June 22, 1974, Michael married the love of his life, Joan Fernalld, beginning a beautiful, devoted partnership that lasted 51 years. Together they built a loving home, raised their son, and shared a lifetime of precious memories.

For many years, Michael owned and operated The Sleep Gallery and Lincoln Avenue Bedding, where he was known for his kindness, honesty, and commitment to serving his community.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; his son, Michael Todd Tesak, and daughter-in-law Danielle Tesak; and his cherished grandson, James Michael Tesak, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his brother Terry Tesak and wife Gail, along with their children Terry R. and Jennifer.

Michael leaves behind his brother-in-law William Fernalld and William's children Lisa Marie, William, Kimberly, and Rebecca; as well as his sister-in-law Lois Zito and her children Noreen and Nicole.

He was predeceased by his parents, Semen and Helena Tesak; his brother Walter Tesak; his mother-in-law Rosemary Gentile; and father-in-law Harry Fernalld.

Michael was an avid golfer, and he helped form the cherished golf group known as the "League of Nations." He was also a passionate sports fan, especially of all New York teams. Nothing made him prouder than watching his son and grandson play sports, and he was always their biggest supporter.

Those who knew Michael will remember him as an avid golfer, a loving man, honest to his core, and an outstanding father and husband. His gentle spirit, warmth, and unwavering devotion to family will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.

Michael's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Hospice Care and to the many doctors, nurses, and staff at the Wynn Hospital who provided exceptional care and compassion.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, from 4:00–6:00 PM. A military ceremony and brief service honoring Michael's life and service will follow. Michael will be laid to rest this upcoming spring.
