Lawrence F. McHugh, Jr., age 90 of Reading on January 11, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy A. (Freeman) McHugh. Loving father of Kathleen Tucker and her husband Carlton of Bristol, RI, Lawrence F. McHugh, III and his wife Lee of North Chelmsford, MA, Robert and his wife Karen of Telluride, CO, Shaun and his wife Beth of Boston, MA, Patricia of Alexandria, VA and Brian and his wife Kathleen of St. Louis, MO. Also survived by six grandchildren — Michael Tucker and his wife, Rachel, Devon McHugh, Caitlin Tucker, Kelly, Lizzie and Leeanne McHugh. Brother of William McHugh of Acton, Thomas of Wakefield and the late Claire Duffy, Mary McCabe and Eileen Sorenson. Also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Larry was the founder and president of Mark Lawrence Photographers, Inc. with portrait studios located in Haverhill, MA and Nashua and Londonderry, NH. He served for many years as treasurer of the Professional Photographers Association of Massachusetts and was also active in politics and was the former chairman of the Reading Democratic Town Committee. Larry was a native of Arlington, MA and a member of the Class of 1949 at Arlington High School. During the Korean War he served as a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army Infantry. Over the years Larry became passionate about genealogy and documented an extensive genealogical collection of relatives and ancestors of his children, including the names of over 4,000 relatives. Larry and Dotty enjoyed many wonderful trips to Ireland, Scotland and Nova Scotia to meet those relatives and encouraged their family to do the same, sometimes employing wacky capers to make it fun. Larry also became passionate about running in his fifties and participated in road races until his seventies. He enjoyed skiing, biking, rooting for his New England Patriots, planning his high school reunions and dancing. Indeed, Larry and Dotty were usually the first ones on the dance floor at any wedding. In the McHugh family's efforts to keep everyone healthy, the funeral and burial will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring for family and friends. Donations may be made in Larry's memory to Angel Flight NE at www.angelflightne.org.

I worked briefly for Larry just over 20 years ago. I remember the conversation he had with me when I started about being on time and prepared for work. Over the past 20 years I have shared that little tidbit of wisdom. Even though I worked for Larry for a short time, I was very impressed with him and it has stuck with me. I´m sorry I wasn´t aware of his passing in order to pay my respects, but I wanted to leave a message here and share this memory. He was a great man! I wish I´d gotten to work with him more.

Larry was our neighbor on Summer Ave, Reading, directly across the street. We always marveled how in his late 80's Larry was the first one out with the snowblower following a storm, meticulous about his yard, and always a wave and a hello. We will miss seeing Larry jumping in his car and driving away, first one out of the driveway after a storm. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, a life well lived. David & Patrice O'Connor

I did not know Uncle Larry for long, only 9 short years, but the minute we met he made me feel as if I was part of your lovely family forever. My sincere condolences to you all.

Kathy, Larry, Jr, Bob, Shaun, Trish, and Brian - my thoughts and prayers are with you and all of your family during this difficult time. Uncle Larry was the true patriarch of the McHugh family and we were all so very blessed to have him be our leader. I know that he and Aunt Dotty are watching down on all of you while dancing the night away. I will always remember the parties and the special Thanksgivings that we shared. May he rest in peace. Love Always, Sheila and Matthew
