Lawrence "Larry" Gilmond

Lawrence Gilmond, 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9th in his home, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Kathleen "Kandy" Gilmond, his three sons, Michael Healy, Shane Healy, and Scott Gilmond and his wife Kate Pace; and his adoring grandchildren Lacey, Justin, Emily, Gavin and Arianna. Larry also leaves his brother Mark and his wife Brenda Gilmond; his sisters & brothers-in-law Cheryl Mahan, Ricky Mahan and his wife Jacqueline Doherty, and Sean Mahan, as well as his nephews and nieces Chris Mahan, Stephanie Mahan, Samantha Mahan Lolax, Shamus Mahan, and Molly Mahan and their families. Larry was lovingly known as "Uncle Chubby Face" by his great-nephews and nieces, Ivy, Sam, Grace and Alex. He was preceded by his brother, James Gilmond; his brother-in-law, Kevin Mahan, and his great-nephew Carter Tower Lolax. Larry was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina, the eldest son of the late Harry and Barbara (Robinson) Gilmond and grew up in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. He was a proud graduate of St. John's High School and held a Bachelor's Degree in finance from UMass Amherst. Larry had a long and distinguished career in finance until he finally retired as the Chief Information Officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Larry was the definition of a true gentleman and a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all in his life. He was a well of wisdom, empathy, and understanding and selflessly gave of himself in service to anyone in need. He died as he lived, with no complaints, fighting throughout, and holding his beloved wife's hand. Larry was fiercely dedicated to his family; his departure will always be felt but his presence will always be celebrated. Visitation will be held at the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 North Main Street, Millbury, MA 01527, on Sunday November 13th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass celebrating his life will be held on Monday, Nov. 14th in St. Brigid Church, 59 North Main Street, Millbury, MA 01527, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Brigid Cemetery.
