Margaret P. Smeykal

Margaret P. Smeykal (nee Hemcher) of East Norriton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. She was 84 years old. Born August 30, 1937 in Bryn Mawr, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Mary (nee Kelly) Hemcher, and the beloved wife of Charles J. Smeykal, Jr., with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Peggy, as we affectionately called her, lived in East Norriton for over 50 years, spending many of those years working at the township building. She loved her penny slots and would never turn down a chance to visit the casino. Peggy was an avid reader and would often swap books with her beloved sisters. She loved spending time with family and friends reminiscing about her life, often mentioning to her grandkids how she played half-court basketball. In addition, she spent many wonderful years vacationing with family in Myrtle Beach. Her favorite night of the week was Sunday when her family would gather for dessert in her kitchen. Peggy was the loving and devoted mother of the late Charles J. Smeykal, III (Maria), Patricia Ebner (John), John Smeykal (Kathy), the late Thomas Smeykal, and Megan Smeykal, grandmother of Catherine, Steven, Kelly, Nicole, Kristen, Alyssa, Ashley, Jacob, Jenna and Danielle, sister of Jacqueline Smith (James), the late Mary Plush and the late Alice Koresko. Relatives and friends are invited to share in Peggy's Life Celebration on Wednesday, November 24, from 10 AM to 11:50 AM at Visitation BVM Church 190 N. Trooper Rd. in Norristown. Her Funeral Mass will begin at 12 PM at the church. Entombment will be in St. Patrick's Mausoleum. Family services are by Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton, 610-277-7000. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peggy's name can be made to the American Heart Association.
