I am the mother of Norma's special friend Casey. Norma shared her heart with my son and I want to share with you some stories of the amazing love he had for her, from my perspective. If Norma was in church, he would only sit with her and would not leave her side even if there was a children's service that day. After services he would walk with her to the fellowship hall. Because she used a walker and the elevator, that meant he was usually last to the buffet table. Other kids would race to be first in line to the cookies but Casey loved being with Norma more than cookies. He was always disappointed if she was too ill to come to church. He would pray for her and wrote prayer request cards for her. He still treasures a small rock she gave him that has a C shaped dent in it. He made matching friendship bracelets for them. One year, Norma gave me Easter treats to give to the kids on Easter. Casey wanted me to take a picture of him holding his chocolate bunny with Norma. Unfortunately, she had a stroke and was unable to come to church for several months while she recovered. During that time Casey continued to write prayer request cards for her and he refused to eat that chocolate bunny. He did not eat it until she came back to church and I could take that picture. It is hard for me to fathom the love that he had for her. When I was his age (4-10), I was as greedy and self-centered as I imagine most kids are. I would have lost that C-rock within a month, I would have raced down the stairs to be first in line to a buffet table full of snacks, I would have ditched a friend to go to a fun children's service where there were songs and games and snacks, and I would not have wasted time in biting off the ears of a chocolate bunny. Casey's love for his special friend Norma is truly humbling. I want to thank you for sharing her with my family. I have no doubt that she will watch over Casey from heaven. God bless all of you.

Sorry for your loss. I worked with Norma at the Lena Nursing Home. She and I became good friends with some difficult times in common but we looked on the bright side. I kissed her on the forehead just last week at the nursing home. This picture is the way I remember Norma.
