Junior, I can't believe it's been 2 years since your passing. My Dad, Rod, was a great friend of yours, and I remember the warm memories of going into your shop as a little girl, with my Dad, to pick up his cars, throughout the years, when you fixed them. My parents really liked how you fixed their many vehicles, and I continued on with the tradition, once my own parents passed away and left me to take care of my childhood home. You really knew your cars, Junior! I marveled at the many WEEKEND days, even on Sundays! when you were in your shop, repairing cars...I remember I had an emergency car repair that needed fixing on a Sunday...and there you were! Just before your death, Junior, you even were helping me to locate a car, because my old clunker died on me on the road. They don't make mechanics like you anymore, Junior! I highly respected you and your unwavering work ethic!!! A lesson for everybody!!! Rest in Peace, Junior, or as I called you (because I was younger), Mr. Swetlik.

I am so sorry and heartbroken to learn of Junior's passing. He was a good friend to my late Dad, Rod, and I remember my parents always brought their cars throughout the years to be serviced by Junior! I did too. Rest in Peace, Junior.

Just heard of Junior's passing, you have my deepest sympathies. I knew Junior my entire life as my grandfather John Bacon, spent virtually every able day of his retirement at the station "helping" out. As a broke college student driving a mix of junker cars, I was completely dependent on Junior somehow keeping them running and roadworthy for the drive back and forth from Madison. He always had a set of used tires, rebuilt part, etc when I needed them and at a ridiculously cheap price that I could afford. If it was something simple, when I asked him how much I owed him he would just smile and reply "you can catch me next time." Even though that was over 30 years ago, I remember how much he helped me and others out and try to treat others the same. I'm not sure they make them like Junior anymore, he will be missed.

Janice, Gina and family -
I'm very sorry for your loss. My dad enjoyed spending time at the station and helping him work on the many repairs I brought to him. They both got a kick out of reminding me of the bad purchase I made in my youth! I also remember the group of friends coming to the house for celebrations over the years. I ran across this photo of Junior at my parents 25th anniversary. Rare to see him out of uniform!

He was one of a kind and he will be missed.....

He always had a smile on his face even if things
Would get tough and he also had a heart of gold to help someone out..
He will be sadly missed by his customers and friends. Jr was one of a kind and you don't find
Many left like him today.

We will surely miss his presence. He was always so helpful. Enjoyed bringing him treats and watching his face smile! Will surely miss the inside information he was always capable of providing! He will be watching over our home from above now. I'm certain he is enjoying a well deserved rest.

Where else could you get the service Junior gave?
What other station still did Old School things? Like pump the gas for you, talk to you through your drivers side window, check your oil, ask about your family, check your tires, tell you about his family, check your wipers, and clean your windshield before sending you on your way?

Going to be missed

I had just waved at Junior through his window last week as I walked by--to hear of his passing today was quite a shock.

I knew him as a customer the past 35 years. He and his "faithful employee" Dan never let me down the many times I needed assistance, and charged not just reasonable prices, but ones I had to supplement with a good tip for the quick and efficient work they did.

But more than that, Junior never failed to have a smile and some good jocular remark. If I had just half his good nature and attitude, I'd count myself very lucky indeed.

I'll miss him. Our neighborhood will not be the same without him. Rest in peace, Junior.
