KINGSFORD - Richard C. "Rich" Halvas, 64, of 145 N Elizabeth St. Kingsford died Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay. Rich was born July 13, 1943 in Stambaugh, MI son of the late Ero and Irene (Book) Halvas. He graduated from Iron River High School in 1961 and lived in this area for most of his life. Rich married Marlene Mylchreest in April of 1963 in Iron River. She preceded him in death in 1988. Rich was a member of the Elks Club and the National Rifle Assoc. He enjoyed going to camp, hunting, fishing, watching sports and was an avid Red Wings fan. Rich especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He is survived by a son, Derrick Halvas of Iron Mountain; two daughters, Sandra (John) Giguere of Kingsford and Lisa Halvas (Scott Visintainer) of Kingsford; two brothers, Duane (Elaine) Halvas of Norway and Earl (June) Halvas of Utah; four grandchildren, Travis and Ashley Giguere and Colin and Connor Erickson; son-in-law, Greg Erickson; special friend, Linda Smiltneek; several nieces, nephews and friends; and his dog, Matti. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A time of sharing will follow at 7:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory. Condolences may be expressed to the family of Richard "Rich" Halvas online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com. The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.
