Robert E. Wiedewitsch, 72, Callaway, MN, died Saturday, March 10 at his home surrounded by his family, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 14 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Callaway, MN, Pastor Del Stohs, officiating. Interment will be at Lake Park Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Park, MN. Friends may call 4:00 – 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM Tuesday at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Robert Edward Wiedewitsch was born September 26, 1939 in Milaca, Minnesota to Roy E. and Freda (Smith) Wiedewitsch. He lived in Onamia, MN until moving to Detroit Lakes in 1951. He is a 1958 graduate of Detroit Lakes and served with the National Guard. He was then a grain truck driver for G & L Gregory Trucking. Later, he was part owner in the Lake Region Speedway in Detroit Lakes. Bob and his brother, Archie bought South Side Phillips 66 and he also worked at Black Top Surfacing/Thorson, Inc. and worked for Gayle's Sales in Detroit Lakes. He started STS Trucking with his three brothers in 1978 which he operated until the time of his death. Bob was united in marriage to Elaine "Patty" Drewes, September 27, 1986 in Detroit Lakes. He was active with the Snowfari Snowmobile Club and with the snowmobile races and truck pulling competitions in the area. He also enjoyed deer hunting. Bob was a gentle, generous man, committed to his family and his work. Bob was an Elder at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and was active on the building committee. He enjoyed and treasured the time with his grandchildren and was a wonderful husband and father. Survivors include his wife: Elaine "Patty" of Callaway; children: Shane Wiedewitsch of Detroit Lakes, Dawn (Al) Sazama of Pelican Rapids, MN, Scott Drewes of Detroit Lakes, MN, Steven (Lynn) Drewes of Joplin, MO, Kimberly (Wayne) Nelson of Paynesville, MN; four grandchildren: Ivy Nelson, Lorissa Drewes, Joseph Nelson and Brianna Drewes, three brothers: Archie (Linda) of Detroit Lakes, Jack (Carol) Detroit Lakes, Jim (Janet) of Perham, MN and a sister: Jane Wiedewitsch of Fargo, ND, and several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials are preferred to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
