Mr. Stephen Havriliak Jr.

Stephen Havriliak Jr, PHD passed away at The Abington Hospital after a long illness on February 11, 2010. He was the son of Mary and Stephen Havriliak and the brother of Alexander. Steve was educated by the public school system in New York City attending P.S.102 and The Stuyvesant High school. He received his BA from the American International College and his PhD in Chemistry from Brown University. His field of expertise was polymer physics. Steve was with The Rohm and Hass Company as a Research Fellow and was the recipient of The Otto Haas Award for his contributions. He was known nationally and internationally for his work in polymers and contributed to many scientific journals. He also spoke at several universities and professional organizations in the United States and Europe. Among the most notable were The Gordon Conference and The Max Plank Institute in Germany. In 1992 he published a book with his son Stephen as a co-author. It was a culmination of his research and his conclusions. He frequently referred to it as his Technical Autobiography. Steve possessed many other gifts that he called his God given talents. He was an expert carpenter, building much of the furniture in his home plus two patios with his son Tom. He was an outstanding photographer on a professional level who processed and printed all of his own work in sports and wildlife and he was an avid astronomer completing many projects with the aid of CCD photography. For a long time he was a member of The Bucks-Mont Astronomical Association and participated in many meetings held throughout the country. We will always remember him for his endless energy and enthusiasm. He had a wide range of interests and pursued them all, especially truth. He loved his family and always tried to set a good example, his profession, his many hobbies and his church, Calvary Chapel. The bible studies were important to him.
