Thomas Eckdale Obituary

Published by Ramsey Funeral Home & Crematorium on Apr. 9, 2011.
Thomas J. Eckdale, born October 6, 1947, ran the race set out before him by his heavenly Father and slipped peacefully into his Father’s arms on Saturday, April 9, 2011. Tom was born and raised in Marshall, MN and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. In 1973 he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California Institute of the Arts. He married Joyce Rachel in 1980 and was the proud father of two children, Paul and Molly. The family moved to Texas in 1993 where Tom worked as a database administrator at Dell Computer Corporation. He also loved working with his hands, so after retiring from Dell in 2002, he began his own home handyman business. Tom had a wonderful sense of adventure and savored the small pleasures in life. He loved traveling, playing golf, and spending time at the Minnesota lake house. One of his greatest passions was that people would know Christ and experience life in Him. He cheerfully gave not only his money, but also his time and labor to advance the Gospel. Tom is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joyce, his son, Paul Eckdale; daughter, Molly Eckdale Bohmfalk; son-in-law, Matthew Bohmfalk; and two brothers, Robert Eckdale of Wisconsin and James Eckdale of Washington. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John and Dorothy Eckdale, and a sister, Cathryn. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 13 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will be held at Main Street Baptist Church Historical Sanctuary on Thursday, April 14 at 10:00 a.m. Interment follow at the IOOF Georgetown Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Thomas Eckdale Memorial Fund at World Magazine to fund the growth of Christian worldview journalism. Attention: June McGraw P. O. Tom is not here now, but he's not forgotten. In our Sunday School class today 2/8/26, we were talking about being spiritual fathers and mothers to younger people around us. I remembered Tom, (back in the later 70's), and Tom bringing to a couple of the residents from a local mentally challenged group home where he worked, to church. They would sit close to him, and put their arms across his shoulder, and he'd do likewise. It was a caring atmosphere, where the residents felt love from a spiritual
father, and the residents grew in their relationship with Christ.
Thank you Tom for loving all people. You were a wonderful example to all of us.
