OBITUARY NOTICE Tony A. Flara Age 78 Tony A. Flara 78, of Fisher Avenue, Calcutta, OH, passed away at home on Thursday morning, March 26, 2009 following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Raphael and Anna (Digirolomo) Flara, born in Midland, PA on August 31, 1930. Mr. Flara, a life long area resident, retired in 1982 from the former Crucible Steel Mill in Midland, PA, where he was a high lift operator. He was a 1949 graduate of Midland High School, was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict was a member of Korean Veteran's Association and a member of St. Aloysius Community Church. Mr. Flara is survived by his wife, Hazel (Roach) Flara. They were married August 4, 1955. Two daughters, Joni Coakley and her husband, Dan of East Liverpool, OH and Vicki Volio and her husband, John of Salem, OH; a step-son, Mike Shovlin and his wife, Sue of Beaver, PA; a brother, John Flara and his wife, Twila of New Cumberland, WV and a sister, Vera Lerussi of Leesville, FL; seven grandchildren, Marc Williams, Craig Williams and his wife, Stacy, Brock Volio, Brent Coakley and his wife Marci, , Ken Shovlin, Kevin Shovlin and Keith Shovlin and his wife, Megan and five great-grandchildren, Jordan Williams, Taylor Williams, Courtney Williams, Mikayla Mills and Maddox Coakley, survive him. Besides his parents, a granddaughter, Heather Coakley and two brothers, Emil Flara and Gino Flara preceded him in death. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at St. Aloysius Community Parish with Father Robert Hannon, as celebrant Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Tri State Korean Veterans Association, Chapter 126, 1155 Benton Road, Salem, OH 44460 or Valley Hospice, 380 Summit Avenue, Steubenville, Oh 43952 The Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes is in charge of the arrangements.
