Richard Lawrence Zewiey 90 years, transcended into peace: July 25, 2014 Beloved father of Jackqueline Priitzker, Barbara Nichols, Joanne VanHelden, Christine DiMaggio, Debra Beckett, Mary Ziinkevicz, Donna Horvit, Richard Zewiey Jr., Mark Zewiey and Lawrence Zewiey. Born November 24, 1923 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He grew up in the south end of Boston at a time when it was difficult for family's to make a living. He was the last survivor of his mother, the late Josephine De Corey and father, George Zewiey. His predeceased siblings are brothers, Harold Zewiey, Mitchell Zewiey and sisters, Valerie Manolas and Celia Nichols. He has 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He joined the Marines in June 1942. He was assigned to Parris Island and then to Samoa, Caledonia, Guadacanal, Bouganville and throughout the Asiatic-pacific-theater, including the Northern Solomon's. He is entitled to the good conduct and Pacific theatre medals. He retired with his wife Mary T. Sommers in Inverness, Florida. Richard always had a great sense of humor, enjoyed doing his crossword puzzles everyday; which kept him mentally alert till the very end. He also enjoyed fishing, and was a wonderful artist who painted in oil's. He remained strong, and had compassion for others less fortunate. Strong hard working man,very structured in life.loved his girls.he had his favorites.I remember eastbrige water the house the pool how we enjoyed those days many fond memories.I loved my auntie Mary.she was full of life.they say opposite s attract this they were..i can still close my eyes and see Shirley my mom Mary wife joking Richie cooking on the grill my dad letting us eat whatever we liked..when life was Innocent.before tragedies happened.somehow we all pulled through.my mom lost Kirk,,Mary lost mitch,somehow.we.all survived it.if a song could fit it would be back then we r family ,those were the days my friend..you no its strange we are all grown up now living different lifestyles.I get sad thinking what happened..some no..i miss my cousins.wow so few left .now they're kids have kids also same here...funny families were very different back then..well my dear uncle your with many now..so Flo gently relax enjoy eternity..mary Mitch Richard mark are all with you may peace and happiness be with you all if heaven is like many many years ago I look forward to us all being together in a good way. No suffering no more..luv u Uncle

Dad, I remember on Easter Mom (Mary Zewiey) would dress us up and Terry, Richie, Mark, Larry and I would squeeze in the car and drive to the South End on Waltham St. and visit my grammy Josie, Aunty Celia, and uncle Nicky. Grammy was not suppose to eat chocolates, but you always managed to sneak them in. When we got home, Aunty Celia would call and yell at you.

I'm Ritchie's 1st cousin, Eva, named after Mama Eva & lived in her house on Rollins St, Boston. My mother was Amelia, the youngest of 4 girls. Aunt Celia lived w/us. Richie's mother, Josie, could sing w/an accomplished voice & never had a lesson; would play our piano by ear..My fav was her imitation of Jeannete Mac Donald & Nelson Eddy singing the Indian love Call.. she sang both voices. I remebered when I saw Richie in his Marine uniform,I started to cry. I wrote to him in the service as I did Harry & Michell. It was the first time I heard of Jujitso & he was good at it. I have many childhood memories..when he needed his pants pressed after washing them, he'd give me a dime to iron them dry! Those were the days before dryers. I remember playing cowboys & Indians w/him & Mitchell. I can't write a book here, so I will say in closing, that I did get to see & hug you, Ritchie, the one time Ben & I visited you in Inverness, FL & met Larry & was impressed w/your art-work. Maybe you'll see Ben 'up there'...he passed Dec 4,2012

TO MY FATHER IN LAW, IT WAS A GREAT PLEASURE TO KNOW A MARINE SCOUT WHO FOUGHT IN THE PACIFIC THEATER DURING WORLD WAR 11 AND WHO WAS PART OF THE GREATEST GENERATION. IN THE YEARS THAT I KNEW YOU, WE HAD OUR SHARE OF LAUGHS AND GOOD TIMES. EVEN WHEN YOU TOLD THOSE AWFUL JOKES THAT WERE PROBABLY AROUND DURING THE GENERAL CUSTER DAYS. NOW THAT YOU HAVE GONE TO A HIGHER LEVEL, I HOPE YOU ARE ENJOYING YOUR LOVED ONES, OLD FRIENDS, AND MY BROTHER FRANK. REST IN PEACE, DAD. LOVE TONY.

My dearest dad, first the regrets. Sorry you suffered so much toward the end. Sorry you had such a hard life. Sorry we couldn't spend more time together. Now the gratitude. Thank you for keeping all of our sisters together. I know it wasn't easy for you, but you persevered. Thanks for all the history lessons, you really were knowledgeable. Thank you for teaching me the proper way to speak Arabic. Thanks for keeping music in our hearts. Thanks for having a heart of gold, especially for the less fortunate. I will never forget the time you gave money to a complete stranger because she was old and poor. I am in awe of that moment and many times I was so proud to call you my dad. Thanks for all the jokes you told to keep everyone happy. I will miss your sense of humor and our crossword conversations over the phone. You meant more to me than I was able to express to you. Rest in peace, I love you. Your daughter,Christine.
