Bobby Strickland Obituary

COTTONDALE Bobby G. Strickland, age 68, of Cottondale, died Oct. 22, 2007, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Ed Boothe officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation for the family will be at 5 p.m. tonight, and a public visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Strickland, Jr.; his brother, Edgar L. Strickland, Jr.; his mother, Anna Dora Strickland; and his father, Edgar L. Strickland.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Strickland; his daughter, Sandy Barger (Tim); his son, Mike Strickland of Cottondale; his sisters, Geraldine Gilliland of Jacksonville, Fla. and Betty Oliver (Doug) of Tuscaloosa; his sister-in-law, Ann Strickland of Northport; his brothers, Ottis Strickland of Romulus and Tim Strickland (Christy) of Tuscaloosa; his mother, Geneva Strickland; his grandchildren, Bobby, Chris, Lindsey, and Baleigh; and his great grandchild, Meagan.

"Pop" was an avid Alabama football fan. He loved softball. He also enjoyed spending time with his special grandchildren, great grandchild, and Taylor. He always had a smile on his face, which lifted the hearts of everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Englebert, Jamie Hendrix, Terry Wilkerson, Olen Averette, Jerome Strickland, Ken Strickland, Benny Strickland, and Dennis Strickland.

Honorary pallbearers are all DCH Cancer Treatment Center staff, Dr. Hinton, Dr. Dubay, Dr. Graham, Dr. Tucker, friends and neighbors of the Hargrove Road community, Shirley Jones, Charlie Bill Tibbs, William Thomas, and his numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DCH Help and Hope Fund.

I am Sorry for the loss of Bobby. Bobby was a cousin that I never really got to know. When ever I did see him he was always friendly and nice. I hate our families were not close but my love was there for them. Love to all the family.
