I know it´s been a few years. I´m Bobby´s niece. I live in Waterloo Iowa. I just want to say I wished I could of been there. I´m Jackie´s daughter. When I first met Uncle Bobby I fell in love with him. He was so nice to me and acted as if I´d been in or around the family all my life. He will be deeply missed. He surely will be. Rest easy Uncle Bobby.

Hey Robin, I was just driving down Selby Avenue last Saturday to see my parents' old house (unrecognizable), and then proceeded up the street to Victoria where I was searching for the Inner City Youth League (it was in my mind's eye). Ironically, I came across the Pioneer Press's tribute to your Dad from early February. How truly sorry I am to learn of his illness and passing, and yet I could hear him in your comments and rememberance of his legacy. I keep you in my heart and thoughts dearest Robin, and will pass the information on to my brother, Glenn (your old classmate from JJ Hill). So sorry again for you and your family's loss. Peace be with you in the days & months to come!

I worked with Bob as the accountant for ICYL in the 80s then as a board member of City Inc. when Bob was one of the community organizers. I always enjoyed listening to him and gaining insight, as I could, into the community. He will be missed.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Bobby. I remember him from the turbulent times of the late 1960's in the Dale-Selby Community. Bobby was a teacher, leader and organizer in the neighborhood then. He certainly was an inspiration to me during that era. He will be missed.

I remember Bobby Hickman when serving with the Model Cities Program in the 1970s. His leadership and presence with an inspiration to both blacks and whites during a turbulent era in St. Paul. Much of the progress in the Summit University area can be attributed to his strength.

To all of the children: I celebrate Bobby's life with you:
Mom and Patty got me the hookup with my first job at Inner City Youth League during the time of Civil Rights. Every time Bobby went downtown all the kids in the neighborhood got paid. He kept us off the streets with summer jobs and many memorable life experiences. I have so much respect for Bobby, a great community leader, teacher, friend and father figure to so many neighborhood kids. Your home was a always a safe haven. St. Paul will always remember his legacy and the Twin Cities is a better place because of him. The Hickman Family legacy continues with you children. Thanks for the many sacrifices and contributions.
Love you all.

As much as I would like to wax poetic, I can't say it any better than Valerie Littles-Butler said it. Ditto Valerie!

Mr. Hickman was one of a kind. My first job where I earned a paycheck was also at the Inner City Youth League. We have lost many community leaders in the last year and 1/2. This one is particularly hard for me.

Blessings to you all.

Without a doubt, Mr. Hickman had a unique swag and artistic style that elevated your brain cells. A real "Brotha" that never lost his identity. I praise God that I was raised in the Rondo village that was wealthy in knowledge, wisdom, power, families, sharing, hope, love and UNITY. I would not be where I am today without this pillar of the community, Mr. Hickman and the Inner City Youth League (one of my first jobs). I grew up with Robin and Kelli and have great respect for all of the siblings. You have my deepest condolences. I love you; you all are in my prayers. HOTEP Mr. Hickman!

The thing I liked the most about Bobby Hickman is that he always "kept it real." He was never pretentious and could be relied on for being honest and speaking truth from the heart. He was a genuine activist and leader, and a great orator and thespian as well.

Dear Hickman Family, condolences at your loss. Bobby was a special man. I became one of his "fans" around fifty years ago. We were both "Do Gooders" in the DFL stuff. Although I was a bit awed by Bobby, it was obvious that he was truly a good man. We've all lost a wonderful leader.
