Kathleen-
I have just today heard of your husband's passing. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Cry with your friends while the tears are fresh and can be shared. So much later a smile of happy memories will perhaps come through the tears, and the pain of these days will thankfully fade.

I offer you comfort for the days ahead.

Greg represented Lithonia Lighting for over 20 years and I was fortunate enough to work with him during that time. He made significant contributions to our industry both professionally and personally. He will be missed both as a business associate and a friend.

Kathy, I was saddened to hear of Greg's passing and will always retain fond memories of our socializing and playing fast pitch softball with and against each other. He was a great competitor and, playing 3rd base as he did, he was a great influence for me in how to handle that position. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families during these trying times.

Kathy, I'm deeply saddened having just learned of Gregs death. He was a great friend, a childhood friend, who, at a very young age triumphed over an encumbrance of great significance, a triumph that surely compelled Greg to grow and become the great guy he was. We shared something special in our lives, he will always be in my thoughts. My sincere condolences to you and your family.

For the past 20 years or so Greg has been my fierce competitor, but at the end of the day still a friend. That doesn't happen often in our business and he will be missed by all.

I have not seen Greg (Alfie) for many years. But when I close my eyes and remember I can still hear his voice sharing advice on any and every situation in the world. We played softball together for some of the greatest years of my life. He was an unbelievable 3rd baseman with cat quick reflexes, a cannon for arm and a bat big enough to lift us all when we needed it most. Every game we played was the most important thing in the world when Greg stept on the field! No one was more intense and nobody wanted it more then Greg Alford! In many ways he was the heart and soul of a team that changed the way the game was played. Thank you Greg for taking us all on that ride. Thank you for being my friend and teammate! I will never forget you Alfie! My deepest condolences go out to the Family and may you find comfort in knowing that we all feel the pain and share in your loss.

Where do I begin to express my gratitude to the man who taught me everything I know about this crazy industry we work in. Not only was he a mentor to me, he was a great friend who always had time to explain the smallest detail, long enough so that he knew you understood it.

I've also had the pleasure of playing many rounds of golf with him. No matter what transpired on the course, it always seemed like I owed him money in the end.

To my mentor and friend, it was an honor to know you. Your impact on both my personal and professional life will never be forgotten, and for that I thank you.

My family lived next door to the Alfords in SSP. I was just notified by my Aunt Candy that Greg had passed. I have not seen Greg since 1967, but I will always have fond childhood memories of Greg and his family. I have taken the time to read some of the other entries in the guest book and it sounds like he ramained the same great person I remember as a child. He has been taken from us too soon. My sympathies and those of my family go to his entire family.

When I think of Greg I think of roses and how he very carefully explained to me how best to care for and winter them. I also think of Spagetti. My daughter Naomi and soon to be son-in-law Jim tell me that his was the absolute best and one of his specialties. Luis and I are so very sad, there are no words adequate to express this sadness. We are with you Kathleen and Jim and the rest of your family, in the warmest thoughts and prayers for God's healing.

I will remember Greg forever. He showed me so many of the subtleties of our lighting industry. I’m one of the many alumni of Greg Alford U. Beyond that, he was a man with energy and enthusiasm for his favorite activities: “the art of the deal”, golf, hunting, and most important his family. Have a safe journey to the place and time where we will all meet again.

Kathleen: I was saddened to hear that Greg passed away yesterday. I knew him as a fellow member at Dellwood Hills Golf Club. Playing golf with Greg always brightened my day. His sense of humor and humility--no matter how he played--was a lesson for all of us. He knew it was just a game and what was important was being together on the course with friends.
Greg and I had a friendly rivalry over holes-in-one. We each had four until he broke the tie a couple years ago. I surprised him with a bottle of wine in his locker, for which he was most grateful.
He was also a supportive and calming presence when my wife Rosanne was President. He was willing to give back to Dellwood and helped to make it a better Club for all members. For that we are thankful.
I always enjoyed Greg's company and will miss him greatly.
My sincere condolences to you and your sons.
