Dale Peterson Obituary

Peterson, Dale A. Major, USAF, Retired Loving Husband, Father, Grandpa Age 87 of Burnsville on February 25, 2009. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dorothy. Survived by sons, Tim (Charlene), and Terry (Susan); grandchildren, Melissa (Jonathan) Gupta, and Christopher; sister, Helen Warlick; and loving friend, Lois Jacobson. Funeral Service 11AM, Monday, March 9, 2009 at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1930 Diffley Road, Eagan. Visitation 3-7PM Sunday (TODAY), March 8 at the J.S. KLECATSKY & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1580 Century Point (Yankee Doodle Rd @ Coachman) Eagan, 651-454-9488, and 1 hour prior to service at church. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Dale spent 20 years as a USAF pilot, 15 months of which as a POW in Germany. He continued serving the government as a FAA inspector for another 15 years, followed by a year as a UN Air Carrier Inspector, assigned to Sri Lanka. During his subsequent retirement years, he was an active member of the MN Chapter of the American Ex-POWs of War, serving one year as Commander. His strong faith in Christ, which was first nurtured as a child at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Sand Lake, WI, provided him with a strong foundation for the rest of his life. It sustained him through the war, guided him and Dorothy as they raised their loving family, and more recently gave him the strength to continue to live and love. Memorials preferred to the MN Chapter of American Ex-Prisoners of War or Christ Lutheran Church.

Dale and his wife Dorothy were customers at our store in Eagan, and was always a pleasure to visit with. He gave me one of his cards to show his history as a pilot. His stories and his personality were a continuous joy to hear and be around. Truly one of the "Good" guys in this world. He will be dearly missed.
Sincerely,

Dale Peterson was one of the finest FAA Air Carrier Inspectors ever assigned to work with the pilots of Northwest Airlines.
He was always calm and fair, which helped put pilots receiving a check ride from him at ease. He never tried to trick or trip, and never played the "gotcha" game. Dale Peterson was a gentleman and an outstanding aviator.

Dale gave me my 727 Capt. qualification ride in Salina, Kansas. He was such a true gentleman that, believe it or not, it was an honest pleasure. I will always remember his kindness and consideration.
