Ken C. Green

American Artist Rooted in Minnesota Ken C. Green, 58, a Minnesota born artist whose works can be seen throughout the United States, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009, after battling cancer. Ken wrote of hid art that "knowing the theme of any subject is essential to understanding what it is expressing without looking to the obvious, literal interpretation," and that "The intensity of emotion of the work is achieved through the use of color, texture and application." A versatile artist, Ken worked in a variety of mediums; pen & ink, water color, oil, ceramic mosaics and acrylic. His works are displayed in several area corporate buildings including American Express and National City Bank. Celebrities that own his works include Queen Latifah, Paul Anka, Bob Hope, Don Rickles, Tanya Tucker and Dionne Warwick. Ken was instrumental in developing the St. Paul Art Crawl and served as President of the St. Paul Art Collective. For the last few years Ken worked tirelessly on his passion of creating a 16-panel mural of Bible stories, on exhibit now at St. Peter AME church in South Minneapolis. Most recently Ken was involved in converting one of the buildings at the Echo Box Art Galley, at 713 Minnehaha Parkway 55106; his works are part of the new Echo Box Gallery there. Ken was born and raised in South Minneapolis, graduating in 1973 from St. Cloud State University. He spent the early 1980's as the artist in residence at the Carlton Celebrity Room where his pen & Ink portraits impressed the performing artists. He's sold works all over the country including shows at the Montserrat Gallery in New York City. Ken is survived by his wife, three daughters, three sisters, one brother and mother. Services are Saturday, October 24, 2009 at St. Peter's AME Church, 401 East 41st Street, Minneapolis, MN 55409. Viewing is at 10AM, funeral services are at 11AM.
