Ron Ledford Obituary

Ronald Lee Ledford, 65, of Ukiah passed away at his second home in La Quinta, Ca. on Monday, April 26, 2010 with family and friends present. Ron was born May 7, 1944 in Ukiah where he resided all his life. Ron was a Ukiah High School graduate, a pear farmer for 30 years and a residential property landlord. Ron was very proud of his long, happy marriage of 48 years, his two (2) children and five (5) grandchildren that he adored, countless wonderful friends, and playing a great game of golf! He was active in the community serving on the board of directors for the Savings Bank and the Redwood Empire Fair, was a member of the California Pear Advisory Board, Lion's Club, and Jaycees. In 1995, Ron was honored as the Mendocino County Agriculturist of the Year by the 12th District Fair. Ron's family and friends will remember him as a wonderful, down to earth, friendly and generous man to all. He was loving to his family and friends and always happy to give someone a hard time! Ron is survived by his wife Dorothy Ledford, daughter Kim Ledford-Hauser and her husband Tim, son Alan and his wife Ann, grandchildren Andrew Ledford (21), Alex Hauser (19), Alyse Ledford (19), Matthew Hauser (17) and Gregory Ledford (16), and his brother Bruce Ledford and his wife Sandi. Ron is also survived by nieces Shannon and Danielle Ledford and Kissimmee and Alexandria Davis; brother's-in-law, Roger and Doug Foote and their spouses, Holly Brachmann and Debbie Parker, and numerous cousins. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Tillie Ledford, and his in-laws Gordon and Barbara Foote. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 30, 2010 at St. Mary's of the Angels Catholic Church at 11:00 AM. My deer sweet friend. How will I go to work every day knowing I won't see your fabulous smile, hear that infectious laugh, or get teased mercilessly for my politics!! You were an absolute pleasure and I will miss you every day. You made this world a better place and it will NEVER be the same without you. Until we meet again.....

Yes, Hugh Preston and Ron Ledford will be entertaining the many Ukiah citizens who now inhabit the fragrant pear orchards of Heaven --- If you listen closely, you can hear the laughter now .... Thank you to Ron and his family for adding so much to the life of the entire Ukiah community. My prayers are sent warmly to Dede and his family. Kathryn Chan

Ron made this world a better place. He was a wonderful man - generous, funny, and kind, and it seemed he was always helping someone. Dad considered him one of his best friends. I can hear them razzing each other now. Dad will be glad to see him again...perhaps they can compare bets as they watch today’s Kentucky derby!

My condolences to Dede and the Ledford family.

Ron was a very kind and generous man. I met him through working with disabled individuals, as he was always willing and able to rent to our folks, giving them a fair deal and much respect. It seems simple enough, respect for all people… but rare these days and abundant in Ron.
After meeting him this way I would see him about town, eating at the Maple with his crew or even at the Horse races. He was always kind, overflowing with humor and respect, friendly and shining beautifully. This is the Ron I knew. He will be missed by me and by many others.
My condolences to the Ledford Family.

Good bye (but only for now) to a good man. Ron always made sure his tenants got a fair deal, especially those tenants with disabilities. God's blessings to his family and close friends, and may peace and fond memories be yours.

Words can never convey the feelings we have for true friends.Just a few days ago as Ron left the crew at the coffee shop on his way back down south we shook hands as we always did and said "good Bye and travel safe" not imagining it would be the last time we'd see each other.Ron and I did business on a handshake for many years and that was better than any contract that could ever be written. We always shook hands on the return from a trip, and I am sure he is extending that big strong hand about now to the big guy in heaven.May they value their friendship from now til forever as much as I value the one I shared with Ron. God Bless you DeDe and all of your family. Louie Tollini

My sincere condolences to the family, when I heard the news of Ron's passing I have to admit though I was very sad a smile came accross my face. I pictured Ron approaching Heaven and being greated by my father, Harry Bartolomei, Louie Ziana, Floyd Rovera all who welcomed him with open arms, golf clubs and a glass of wine. We will miss you Ron. Tami Bartolomei

The one thing I did learn from Ron was how to have fun. Growing up with Alan and Kim, Ron was always there to point the direction not only for fun but for the daily chores he would never make us forget that needed to be done. Extremely honest with his words and actions, one could not help but appreciate his presence and guidance, and of course the nicknames he gave you along the way! ha! Its hard not to miss those days because of him.

Very few people touched so many lives as much as Ron did. He brought laughter to wherever he went, but his compassion and genuine caring for his family, friends and community are what made Ron stand out. Golf was his passion. Those of us fortunate enough to have played a round or two with Ron will always remember his humor. We had alot of laughs. Ron lived life to the fullest We loved him and will miss him.

To Bruce and the rest of Ron's family,my sincere condolences to all of you. I did classified ads for you and Ron at the UDJ. Both of you were one of my very favorite accounts.
Ron was always so nice and funny on the phone. I never had the pleasure of meeting Ron in person, as I did you Bruce several days ago.
I mentioned Ron's passing to my uncle (Gary Borgna) who played ball with him in high school and he mentioned what a great ball player and great guy he was.
Again my condolences.
