Joe was born August 8, 1928 in Dover, NH, to John Banaian of Malatia, Turkey and Rose HosepianBanaian of Suedia, Syria. John died in 1933 and Joe grew up with Rose and five siblings. He met and married Nancy Cloutman on September 10, 1950. They settled at first in Dover then moved to Manchester, NH in 1956, where Joe was a buyer for Muir Lumber. He then took a job at Foster Grant as a foreman. He worked there and the companies that bought the plant until it closed in 1987.

Joe and Nancy worked selling antiques in consignment shops, fairs and flea markets for many years and owned the Weekender antique shop in Manchester They moved to York Beach, ME in 1995 and continued trading antiques. They finally made Myrtle Beach their home in 2008.

Joe was active in antiques, in his church, and in the lives of his children and grandchildren. A long interest in education made him both a Sunday school superintendent and inspired to earn a master's degree in occupational education. A lifelong Detroit Tigers fan - his favorite player was Hank Greenberg, - he and Nancy loved trips to spring training. He waited until his 85th birthday to finally make a trip to his parents' homeland in Armenia.

"Baba", "Joe", "George"... No matter what you called him, Joe was always smiling. He had a name for everyone and that was because he cared about everyone. Once you met Joe, you were a part of his life even if he wasn't a part of yours. He would check often with the people you knew to find out your where abouts and life news. He really had a special curiosity about him when it came to people. Even with alzheimers, he didn't forget people. His brain didn't work that way. I guess that's one of the special things he passed down to his son and why I love them both so.
