Ann Corfman Obituary

ST. PARIS - Ann Corfman, age 80, of Urbana, OH passed away on September 27. Ann was a daughter of the late Paul and Anne Machovina. She is survived by her husband, Bill Corfman, of Urbana, OH and two sons, Dave Corfman of Brooklyn, WI and Dan Corfman of Madison, WI. A brother, Bill Machovina also survives in Scottsdale, AZ.

Ann was a long-time educator. She was a public school teacher for 34 years, a professor at the Urbana University Education Dept. for 16 years, and a member of University Women. She will be missed at the monthly breakfast with her friends from the Champaign County Retired Teachers Association. As part of her love of education she helped to establish the Johnny Appleseed Society and the Johnny Appleseed Museum. She wrote books and presented many educational programs. In keeping with her love for education, she has donated her body to Wright State University Medical School. A memorial for her will be held at the university on a later date.

Ann was a beloved and vital volunteer for the Gloria Theatre by GrandWorks. She had a passion for helping in any way that she could. She was game to participate in everything, from dressing up for a current theme or handing out candy on Halloween.

She enjoyed playing her Dulcimer with the Champaign County Dulcimer Club, swimming weekly at the Y, and entertained us in her many roles as a member of the Champaign County Community Players. She was also a 50-year member of Country Friends.

Ann was a blessing to all who knew her and will be sorely missed in the community.

Ann was great co-worker and a friend. In the early months of the Johnny Appleseed program I was contacted by a group from MN who was going to publish a series of books for children. The one on Johnny Appleseed, they ask if we would proof it . I ask Ann if she would do that and she helped with that and then she wrote 3 books about Johnny.

I was privileged to have met and worked with Ann at the Gloria Theater. She was one of a kind - always greeted me with a warm smile and addressed me as "hey girl". It made me feel so welcomed around her. She had a contagious personality, so much fun to be around and was always spreading cheer and goodwill. I will deeply miss her and "hey girl" can't wait until we meet again!

Ann was a true gem. She remembered me from being Freddie Falcon at GHS and her husband was my Math teacher. I met Ann and we became friends while I opened the front desk at the Champaign Family YMCA each morning at 5 am. She was always interested in me and I loved talking with her. I got to know what extraordinary is; She was a remarkable woman. Ann will be missed and was loved by all, had the best laugh and smile, always a kind word. RIP my friend!

We will really miss Ann at the Johnny Appleseed Society and Museum. She was a tireless worker in the program from it's inception in 1995. She was always an enthusiastic and upbeat volunteer.
