Roger Lansing Obituary

Roger W. Lansing 1941 - 2016
CLINTON/WHITESBORO - Roger W. Lansing, 74, of Clinton, and formerly of Whitesboro, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born on June 17, 1941, in Utica, a son of the late Walter and Stephania (Mezek) Lansing. He was a 1959 graduate of Whitesboro Central School; he then continued his education and graduated from the Marcy School of Nursing. Roger was employed with Marcy Psychiatric Center and then with Pinefield Children and Youth Services, as a Registered Nurse, retiring in 1995. This was a job that he truly loved and enjoyed. He found much gratification in caring for children with special needs. After his retirement, he accepted a part time position with the New York State School for the Deaf as a Staff Nurse.
Roger was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved the time that he spent with his family, especially his adored grandchildren. If there was a sporting event, or school event or performance that his grandchildren were involved in, and he could get to, he was there. He loved crossword puzzles, was a master at Trivial Pursuit and brain games. He had a great love for sports, both participating and coaching youth basketball. He enjoyed traveling with his loving wife, Emily, to many places, including Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska and Hawaii. His favorite location was the Outer Banks, in North Carolina, where they spent many good times with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Emily (Kutsko) Lansing, of Clinton, and their children and grandchildren: Susanne Lansing Smith and her companion, Frank Gowett, Sr., of Marcy, her children, Hayden and Harrison Smith; Roger Lansing and his wife, Wendy, of Cooperstown, and their children, Jacob, Kristen and Ryan Lansing; Krista Stupka and her husband, David, of Poland, and their children, Adam Hauck and Emily Stupka; Kevin Lansing and his wife, Hollie, of Whitesboro, and their children, Kylie and Addison Lansing; and Melissa Merdanovic and her husband, Irfan, of Whitesboro. He also leaves two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marian Varieur and her husband, James, of Clinton, and Janet B. Lansing, of Mattydale.
The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the many caregivers at Hospice & Palliative Care, Dr. Charles Eldridge, and Dr. Samir Desai, and also a special thank you to Joyce McKevitt, retired Hospice nurse. Your wonderful care and compassion will never be forgotten.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 27th, at noon, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Whitesboro, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. There are no public calling hours. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Memorial Mass.
In lieu of flowers, please consider Hospice & Palliative Care, in his memory. Envelopes will be available at the Memorial Mass.
Arrangements with Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Whitesboro.

My sincere sympathy to the Lansing family. I remember Roger from high school - we both graduated in 1959. Saw him again during our 50th class reunion. He was still the nice individual he was back then. Sandra Slabicki Brady
